My story

Here's what the humans have to say about me:

Urban dictionary is no Merriam-Webster but they definitely got it right when they defined Lexi.

noun l lex·i l \ lex·ē \

a : The love of a guy's life
b : A girl that can change your life forever

That's our Lexi and whether you're a guy or a a girl, she is a life changer!

In rescue we see the same sad story again and again. Pregnant dogs, just puppies themselves, bred far too young, and then discarded without a second thought. This was the narrative written for our sweet Lexi and the story we were dedicated to re-scripting. Lexi actually came into our rescue at approximately 9 months old, while she was still pregnant, after she was surrendered to a high kill shelter and sat for almost a month in the hopes of finding rescue. Thankfully, we had a wonderful foster step up and we got Lexi out just days before she gave birth to three beautiful pups -- two girls and one little boy. Sadly, her smallest pup, Everly, did not survive but her other two babies, Eden and Elliott, not only thrived but have since been adopted into wonderful families.

Lexi was shy and withdrawn when she first came into rescue and while she blossomed as a mom, after her puppies were weaned, she again had a difficult time coming out of her shell. Of course she needed to stay with us while her puppies were in rescue and until she could be vetted but we also wanted to give her a chance to relax and know the feeling of simply being a well-loved dog. As a result, she has been in rescue with us quite a while. Now approximately 1.5 years old, she has experienced both a loving foster home and she has been in training where she has had an opportunity to socialize with dogs and people and work on her obedience. While she can still be a shy girl initially, it is short lived. Even still, we are looking for a home with a gentle, positive, yet self-assured leader to help her continue to truly blossom.

Once she is comfortable, Lexi is one of the most loving and affectionate girls we know. Even at 40lbs. our Shepherd/Pitbull mix thinks sitting in your lap and giving kisses is the world's best pastime. Lexi would flourish in an active family (kiddos 12+ please) as she would enjoy daily walks, hiking and biking and would even make an incredible agility partner. She gets along with dogs, large and small, but now that she knows how great life can be, she greets each day with enthusiasm, and any canine friend should appreciate her exuberance. Don't get us wrong, while zoomies around the yard are a perfect activity throughout the day, snuggle time is a key component of Lexi's routine!

Lexi is housebroken and crate trained, spayed, up to date on vaccinations, heartworm negative, microchipped and ready to live the good life with her forever family! If that's you, please complete an application at omdrescue.org.
