My story

Here's what the humans have to say about me:

✰✰ POPPY Female 2 years & AVAILABLE - for more photos of POPPY please click http://norcalbcrescue.org/poppy_2017.html ✰✰

This beautiful tri-colored Border Collie mix is 2-1/2 years old and she weighs about 40 lbs. POPPY is a great dog with TONS of energy! She absolutely loves to play, especially with tennis balls, or any ball for that matter! She is an excellent catcher and her foster Mom says she is very athletic and hardly ever misses a catch! We just love to watch her jump high to catch the balls! With proper training, we think she might be excellent at Frisbee, fly-ball, or agility. Even though POPPY did not have much, if any, training or socialization in her former home, she tends to be a naturally friendly girl who will initially bark at strangers but after a few pets will settle down for play. POPPY does tend to warm up to women faster than men but in time bonds to both. While in her foster home, POPPY has made great advancements in her manners and obedience. We are amazed at how smart she is and how fast she learns. However, additional training will benefit this little girl in her new home. POPPY is a strong willed girl who previously was used to having her own way. She tends to be friendly with other dogs and humans who are friendly to her.

POPPY loves to play with other dogs but has a tendency to pester them constantly to play with her. Supervision would help her be more respectable in this matter. She would do well as an only dog or with an” alpha male” companion of similar energy who will be tolerant of her young energy. POPPY is not a nuisance barker but will alert bark when appropriate. She, also, tends to be a “talker” and we laugh at the way she will grunt and growl in pleasure when rolling on the carpet or grass! We are happy to say that she is housebroken, crate trained and a quiet traveler in the car. Did I mention that she absolutely LOVES car rides? She has learned to associate them with going to fun places. She has never shown any destructive behavior, such as digging, chewing, etc. while with us. With lots of love, patience and time poppy formed a strong bond in her foster home and can now run free off leash with her foster brothers…..in safe areas! We are sure that with the same attention she will be able to do this in her new home also as these dogs are very adaptable with lots of love! POPPY settles down nicely in the house when told to do so and sleeps through the night. She prefers to sleep on the bed with her human or on her own bed near you. We call her a “Velcro” dog as she wants to always be near you. Even though she is not a very cuddly girl she will lay near you and will always, willingly, give you “kisses.

POPPY’S foster mom wants to STRESS that a strong alpha leader is a must with this girl as she had not been given any limitations, guidelines or discipline with her previous owner and is now learning the rules of living in our world! All in all, POPPY is a dog with so much potential to be the wonderful companion you are looking for. If you feel you can meet POPPY’S needs she is ready to meet you. Woof!

POPPY is micro-chipped, spayed, heart worm negative and on preventative, and up to date on vaccinations.
