My story

Here's what the humans have to say about me:

Hi. My name is Faith Girl, and I am a happy, friendly, playful female black lab mix. My path to SCLRR hasn’t been easy, but you would never know it. I love everyone-dogs, people, and especially children. Don’t let my white muzzle fool you- I am very playful despite being around 8 – 9 years old.I weigh 77 lbs. I love to fetch, play with toys, and chase birds in the backyard. The vet said I have a runner’s heart, so I am ready to get moving with you.

When SCLRR rescued me from the shelter I had a massive fatty tumor on my back leg. Although a biopsy showed it was benign, eventually it would interfere with my ability to walk, so I had surgery to remove it in early May. I am all recovered now, and ready to go!

I absolutely love, love people! I think I’m a lap-dog and I love snuggling up on your lap and giving kisses. Sometimes I’ll come up and nudge your hand to remind you that I’m here. I’ll follow my foster mom around the house to keep her company, but I’m also independent and not a velcro dog. I just have a lot of love to give!

I really enjoy going for long walks. I greet everyone with a friendly tail wag, even dogs who don’t act very nice. I am also good on the leash. In the very beginning I might pull a bit, but most of the time I go at your pace with a loose leash.

For car rides, I’ll hop right in when the door is opened. I’m a bit of a talker in the car, but that’s just my way of asking you where we’re going. My foster mom says that I’m just like my human little brother, always anxious to see where we’re going. If we’re going somewhere fun like the park or hiking, I’m all for it!

I know sit, shake and stay, but my best trick is just my friendly, mellow behavior, my beautiful smile, and the way I tilt my head when you talk to me.

After people, my second favorite thing is eating. I love food. If there’s food on the counter and no one’s around, I’m probably going to eat it because what lab can resist yummy leftovers? But I never take food from young children (even though the opportunity was often there: my three year old human brother was an easy target) nor do I ever take food from other dogs. I’m very gentle and respectful. It’s just the unclaimed food that I can’t resist.

I love my crate, but I don’t really need to be in it because I am never destructive and I’m fully house broken. Most days after a nice walk, I just chill out in a quiet spot or in my crate.

I am currently living with another dog my age, and we get a long really well. But I love people more than dogs, so although I would definitely do well with a furry brother or sister, I would also be fine as an only dog. I’m also ok with cats. When I first arrived here, I tried to chase my cat sister, but I’m learning to give her own space, so she isn’t afraid of me. Now I stand very, very still and let her sniff me (while I stare over at my foster mom for approval with a frightened look on my face).

I am so easy going and friendly, I would fit well in any family that has the time for me. For logistical reasons due to my surgery, I have lived with three foster families, and I’ve fit in well with all of them. I did very well with a family with very young children, and now I am enjoying life with two older boys. I watch them very carefully when I see them playing in the neighborhood during my walks. In fact, sometimes I stubbornly refuse to leave them. They might need me! When they are home, I am right in the middle of the action, and no amount of craziness bothers me. But while I would love a family with children, I’ll be over the moon with a family who is going to spend time with me and shower me love and companionship. I’ll be forever grateful and be your best buddy for life!
