My story

Here's what the humans have to say about me:

I have an Adoption Pending but hope you will consider one of our other great dogs. Thank you!

8/30/17 Foster Update: Marsha and her foster family are vacationing on Cape Cod. While there, they visited with one of our SGRR volunteers who lives on the Cape. She told us, "Marsha is such a sweet and gentle little soul! She is such a good girl. Her fur is very shiny and soft and she loves to be petted and will lean into you as you pet her. She is very quiet and is not needy or pushy. She quickly found my Jordan’s toy basket. Her favorites were squeaky toys and a bone, plus we discovered she likes to chew ice cubes!

We went for a walk and, although she can use some practice staying on one side of her person, she is easy to walk and stays close by, enjoying every new sniff. She is very interested in people and meets them easily! She is a good eater, sleeps through the night, and only gets on the couch if she is invited. Once invited, she loves to snuggle and get belly rubs! Riding in the car she settles right down in the back seat and enjoys the ride. She will never be a surfer dog—when an ocean wave crashed nearby she went straight up into the air! In calmer water she is fine, that is more to her liking. Marsha is going to be a sweet, affectionate companion who is easygoing and a joy to have in your home!"

Meet Marsha, 30 pounds of absolute cuteness overload! This little lady was picked up as a stray in Marshall County, AL. She had been seen running around with another dog, with a good Samaritan feeding the pair until animal control was able to corral the two dogs. Marsha is estimated to be about 1.5 years old and truly is as cute as they come. We think she is probably a Duck Toller/Australian Shepherd mix due to her size, coloring, and bobtail. Marsha is lively, affectionate, and filled with happiness. Her adorable bobtail never stops wagging, creating the cutest wiggle butt you could imagine! Lisa, our main rescuer in AL, shared that Marsha loves the agility apparatus in the vet's office's play yard! She is a speedy runner too, and would probably make a great agility candidate. Take a look at Marsha's video!

Marsha is now in a loving foster home in NYC. Her foster mom shares, "Marsha is so sweet and friendly. Marsha is happy-go-lucky dog who looks to meet everyone (adults, children and dogs) she encounters. She sat nicely when two toddlers wanted to pet her. She is eager to make new friends and is friendly to all the dogs we have met on our walks. We play ball in the house and she plays nicely. She seems to be house broken and has had no accidents. Marsha knows sit and stay so far. She loves to cuddle and rolls over for belly rubs. She is a cute little dog who will be a great companion. She will make a wonderful pet for someone!"

Marsha has been brought up-to-date on all her vaccinations, is spayed, heartworm negative, and micro-chipped. She is now in a foster home in NYC and would love to meet you!

Like most rescued dogs, Marsha has an unknown past and her personality will continue to evolve as she becomes comfortable in her forever home. If you understand “rescue” and would like to be part of Marsha’s rescue story and have already been approved for adoption through SGRR, please contact Donna to be considered to adopt Marsha.

About Our Rescue

Before being approved to adopt, all potential adopters need to complete our online application and participate in our pre-adoption review process. The process includes the completion of an online application, a reference from the applicants' vet, a phone interview, and a visit to the applicants' home. The application process helps us determine what type of Golden would be best suited for the applicants' life style. In some cases, the specific dog you are interested in may have found a home before this process is complete or further assessment may find that this dog is not the right match for your family. We are regularly getting new Goldens in need of a home, so we encourage you to apply and get approved so that when the right dog comes along you will be ready.

The information provided on each dog is based on observations of our vets, volunteers, fosters and when available, trainers. While we do our best to report any and all issues, SGRR does not make any guarantees as to the health or temperament of any dog. Dogs evolve differently in different environments and we cannot predict with any certainty how the dog you adopt will act in your home.

SGRR Adoption Fees (subject to change)**
Puppies under 6 months $650
Young dogs 6 months - 6 years $550
Young dogs - Special Needs $450
Senior dogs 7 - 9 years $450
Seniors dogs 10 years and older $350
Senior dogs - Special Needs $300
Young Bonded Pairs $850
Senior Bonded Pairs $750

**Please note: The fees listed represent a slight increase and are effective for applications received after June 1 2014. We regret the need to increase the fees for our dogs, but found it necessary due to the increased costs we are faced with for each dog's care and placement.

A contract is signed the day of adoption. Under the terms of the contract, all adopters are required to bring the rescue to a vet within 7 business days. The dogs receive basic veterinary care prior to adoption. If your vet identifies an illness that an adopter is not willing to treat, then the dog is returned and a full refund is provided.

Many of our dogs are fostered in private homes and we do not have a facility to visit. We are committed to our dogs before, during, and after adoption! The rescue retains title to the dog and can never be released or sold. Should the adopters no longer be able to keep the dog, SGRR must be notified so that we can take the dog back into rescue and place it into another home. We reserve the right to remove a dog at any time should we find the adopter is no longer caring for their Golden in a way we see fit. Adopters then have to agree to follow up visits as needed.

Please be a ray of light for this Sunshine dog and make a tax deductible donation toward medical and other expenses. Every cent of your generosity goes directly toward the care of a Sunshine dog.
