My story

Here's what the humans have to say about me:

This sweet little girl is Charlie. She was found as a stray in Brooklyn, and she was absolutely terrified upon arriving at the shelter. She must have had a family, because she knows how to sit and "dance", and losing them must have been horrible for her.

Charlie was completely shut down when she arrived in her foster home. She would not allow anyone to pet or touch her. She wouldn't look at her foster mom and any movement in her space terrified her. We can't imagine what this poor little girl went through, but we do know a few things about her. She is about 4 years old, spayed, and house trained. In the last two weeks her foster family has seen a miracle occur! Charlie has slowly and gently come out of her shell. Gone are the low growls and flattened ears, she is now a beautiful and joyful dog!

Charlie loves other dogs, but likes to boss them around. She needs to be greeted slowly, never putting your hand over her head (instead she loves her chin being scratched). Now, when her foster mom arrives home from work, Charlie does a dance and performs little ballerina leaps in the air! She is gradually getting used to visitors coming in and out, but she still shies away from new people until she gets to know them. She can run at the speed of light! She plays hard in the backyard with her foster siblings (a pit bull, an Alaskan Malamute, and a basset hound) and although she is the smallest dog in her foster home, she certainly doesn't know it.

Don't let her little white chin or eyebrows worry you, Charlie is only 4 years old or younger, active, playful, loving and affectionate. She is about 25 pounds, spayed, up to date on all her shots, heartworm negative, crate trained, micro-chipped, and house trained. We would prefer a home with no young children, due to her initial fears. If you have it in your heart to make this little girl's dream come true, please fill out an application for her today. She is a very special dog, and although she might need a bit longer to acclimate than most dogs, she most definitely deserves it!

To adopt Charlie, fill out our online dog application , or download our Microsoft Word dog application and return it to sheltersurvivors@live.com. It will help expedite the process.
