My story

Here's what the humans have to say about me:

Hi there! My name is Millie and I’m gonna be a movie star, at least that’s what my foster momma told me! She is so excited to share with you all the wonderful things about me, so I will just let her get to it now:

“Thoroughly Modern Millie is a delightful 2 year old movie star beagle. She was found as a stray from a local shelter in South Carolina, but soon rose to stardom. She is a happy bundle of 15 pounds. She is people and kid friendly; she has never shown any aggression toward a person or child.

“Millie is also dog friendly and has been around both large and small dogs and both male and female. She is very submissive when meeting new dogs and often rolls over on her back. Once she is comfortable she will run and play. She has definitely enjoyed playing with my mom’s beagle who happens to be the same size. They are so cute together. She does fine with the big dogs and will often play chase with them, too. I believe she could be happy in a home with or without another dog. She LOVES the attention she would get as an only dog, but would also do fine with a playmate.

“Millie is very healthy and energetic, but NOT hyper. She will get the ‘zoomies’ outside but doesn't go wild in the house. Sometimes she will run with her stuffed animals- throwing them around, but it is so cute that I don't consider this ‘hyper behavior’. She is very good when getting a bath and when getting her nails trimmed.

“Millie is a good eater; she eats approx. ½ cup in the AM and ½ cup in the PM. She eats a mixture of no grain dry with a tablespoon of wet food. She will eat soft treats that are small and will take a hard bone or treat from you, but she will either drop it or go hide it for later. She loves yogurt and hotdogs the best. She will do anything for a hotdog.

“Millie likes to go on walks. If she is unfamiliar or gets scared she will just crouch down and then roll over (sometimes in the middle of the road). All I do is stand her back up and keep going. After a few trips down the street she was fine. I use a harness that I will be sending with her.

“Millie loves to ride in the car and does really well on trips out to the lake. She loves being outside so she would be a great dog for anyone who likes to go on adventures with their dog.

“Millie is not completely house trained. She is trying really hard and almost has it down. She needs to go out right after she wakes up in the morning and after she eats. She can use the dog door but is very weary of it. She needs to be taken out consistently. I have left her for approximately 4 hours and she has done fine. If she tinkles and poops in the AM then she is typically good for the rest of the morning. If I am home I try to take her out every 2 hours if we are not outside already.

“I do not put her in a crate. She has few accidents and doesn't destroy the house at all. She likes to chew and play with her stuffed animals. She will sometimes throw her toys around the house and it is quite funny. She has chewed one plastic child’s toy, but never any furniture, books, or household items. She does not get in the trash (at my house).

“Millie is a great sleeper. She will go to bed and sleep all night. She prefers to sleep right next to your bed. She does not have accidents at night.

“I would consider Millie a ‘flight risk’, not because she is not happy… it’s just a beagle thing. She is quite good at sneaking out the door if you are not careful. She will come back to you if you squat down and call her (especially if you have hotdogs). She is learning her name and seems to be a smart little girl.

“Millie seems to be a very quiet beagle; she rarely barks or howls. She is a very affectionate dog. She loves to just sit with you and get a belly rub. She is a wonderful companion. Once she gets comfortable with you, she will follow you around the house.”

I am exhausted from reading all the kind words that my foster mom wrote about me, but I don’t mind… after all, I’m a star!! I will be traveling up to New Jersey (via my ‘limo’, I presume) on Saturday, July 22, and will be at Petsmart from 11- 3 pm that day. I will be available for adoption when I make my grand entrance at Petsmart, so if you are interested in sharing your home with a beagle starlet, please fill out the application and submit it to my ‘agent’, Joan Kerr of PABR!
