Here's what the humans have to say about me:
FOSTER LOCATION: Nampa, ID
William is a very sweet long-haired dachshund with very unusual coloring. He is piebald: white with dark auburn-red (!) accents. He is about 7-years-old, and is a total lap dog. William is very affectionate. He is on the small side, probably what is referred to as a “tweeny,” mid-way between full-size and miniature. William came to Fuzzy Pawz because his people could no longer keep him.
William is house trained, crated trained, and is learning to use a pet door. He comes when called by name, sort sits on command (butt a inch or two off the floor), and takes treats very nicely. William knows “stay” and “down (off)” as well. He loves to ride in the car, and is good on the leash.
This wonderful boy has lived with children ages 2 to 16, other dogs, cats, and other small animals and has had no reported issues with them. In fact, his former owners said he is very good with all animals! He is a little shy with strangers, not wanting them to reach down to him, but warms up quickly if given some space. He barks to announce when strangers come to the door or in the yard, but is not aggressive.
William is used to being able to get up on the furniture, and it will be hard to make him stop if you do not like that. He prefers to sleep in bed with his human, but was trained to a crate in his previous home so going back to that should not be a problem. While not fond of a bath, he will stay in the sink with only minor encouragement while it is happening.
His foster home has been able to identify only one bad habit: given a chance, the dog will get on a chair to climb up to the table to eat any food left out. Until this bad habit is trained out, William will need to be carefully watched. Fortunately, he is too short to counter surf too, or he most likely would.
William came to Fuzzy Pawz shortly after receiving treatment for a horrid flea infestation that resulted in flea dermatitis. The treatment was successful, but he’s been shaved a bit near his back end. The skin is healing up nicely and the fur coming back. It won’t take long before he has flowing locks again!
