YAY - adoption pending!
Oh Finnegan - one glance from you and our hearts just melt. Your back legs may not work as well as some other dogs, but your heart sure does. This little guy is full of love and joy that he's just itching to share with the world. He loves to snuggle and get his feet massaged. We've been working with some acupuncture and laser therapy to help stimulate the muscles in his legs. And even if the ability to use them never returns, that doesn't slow him down. He can scoot around just fine and he even has a cart. Finnegan is perfectly house trained b/c he requires the easiest of bladder expressions a few times / day. He loves to sleep in the big bed with people, or in a dog bed with another dog. We've discovered he loves a good game of hand and he will "talk" to you when he wants some attention.
Finnegan is ~14 lbs and is ~5-7 years old. We believe he may have suffered an injury in his prior life that caused the loss of his rear legs. He's got tons of quality of life left in him though, and he's just yearning to share it with someone. His foster family has helped dogs of all capability levels and says this guy is perhaps even easier than most others they've cared for. Whoever adopts this little guy is going to be one lucky pet parent. He's just that good!!!
If you are interested in adopting Finnegan, you can fill out an application right on our website! Go to
dreamhappytails.org/adoptform.shtml . Finnegan 's adoption fee is $300. All adoption fees go directly to veterinary care for DREAM dachshunds. Finnegan will go to his new home microchipped, neutered, heartworm tested, and up to date on vaccinations. Most dogs' veterinary expenses are greater than our adoption fees.
DREAM is an all-volunteer rescue group, and we focus on the Atlanta, North Georgia and Savannah area. Because we are all volunteers, we can consider applications only within an hour of these areas. DREAM does not recommend purebred dachshunds for families with children under 5, or families planning to have children during the dog's lifetime. Dachshunds are often not patient with little kids, and kids can accidentally hurt a doxie's back.
