My story

Here's what the humans have to say about me:

Looking for a calm, loving companion to stay by your side, go for leisurely walks or hang out with you in the yard? Ask to meet this sweet boy who is waiting in CT for his forever home.

10/4/17 Foster Update: Read how nicely Sessions has fit into his Foster Dad’s home and routine with his resident dogs: Sessions may look like he is ready to run and be hyper but he is such a calm, laid back dog! He is most happy laying around with me or following me. He loves his walks as long as they're not too long. He really is a wonderful dog and full of love for people. He just loves hanging out with me and loves attention. It doesn't matter who comes by he is there to greet them and does not jump. He is just a happy dog and very loyal. Sessions loves to be petted and likes tummy rubs! He also loves his ears and head petted. He gives kisses and he has this little head bob and pawing thing that he does when he is really enjoying being loved on!

In the house he lays down and either sleeps or watches what is going on. He is so smart and learns quickly! He now sits as I fix their dinner and Sessions will wait for me to put his food on the floor. He is a very calm dog who does not require a lot of exercise. He loves anyone that he meets and they love him! He surprised me yesterday with how relaxed he can be. I was doing some things in the barn and he was laying in the grass just outside the back door in the sun. I could see him there just watching the world go by. I walked out to see him and there was a flock of turkeys maybe 100 ft from him feeding in the field. He lay there watching them, so relaxed! He is just a happy dog! He really is so sweet and is so good with my guys. Someone is going to get a great dog!

8/30/17 Update: We are learning that Sessions is an amazing, social dog who loves being with humans and enjoys being with other dogs. The shyness we first saw in him has faded away. In his foster home he greets new people with a wagging tail and has fit right in with the three resident dogs. Foster Glenn tells us, "Sessions is such a loving boy and only wants to be with me. He follows me everywhere and I have not seen any of the shyness that his pictures show. He has been wagging his tail non-stop and there have been no problems with my boys. Even when I was feeding them all last night he ate and took treats right along with the boys. He doesn’t seem to know a lot of commands but is just an all-around good boy. He does know what "no" means, but I honestly do not have to tell him "no" very often. I was surprised when I went to bed and he came right up the stairs with me and Jeb. He jumped up on the bed and slept right next to me all night. It’s only been 1 day, but I am completely confident that he is house-broken. He loves to cuddle and loves tummy rubs! He acts like he's been here forever. When I take him for walks on his lead, he never pulls and stays close. He is sitting right next to me as I write this and he has the most beautiful eyes that seem to talk to you. He is a very pretty dog. I will work with him on some simple commands while he is here with me, and I will also enjoy him.”

Sessions' Story: Introducing Sessions, who came to SGRR very sweet but scared. He was brought to an AL shelter along with 40 other dogs who were part of a hoarding case. Sessions is estimated to be 6-7 years old and we believe he is a Lab mixed with hound, possibly Tree Walking Coonhound. When we researched Tree Walking Coonhound, we found them described as exceptional family dogs; good with children, courteous, easy to train, and smart. Sure enough, Sessions is sensitive and gentle and laid back, and smart as well.

Although shy, Sessions came up to the kennel door to meet our volunteer Lisa as soon as he saw her and the staff said he likes all people. She gave him treats which he took gently. He walked well on a leash without pulling. Sessions is heartworm negative, neutered, vaccinated and micro-chipped. He has no mobility issues and has a moderate energy level. It is going to be a rewarding experience to help this amazing dog gain confidence and evolve into a happy and loving companion, learning what a loved dog’s life can be.

Rescued dogs come with a range of needs - from behavioral to emotional to medical. When approved applicants adopt such dogs, they agree to continue the rehabilitation we have begun. If you would like to be part of Sessions' rescue story, and you have already been approved for adoption through SGRR, please contact the Adoption Committee to be considered to adopt sweet Sessions.

About Our Rescue

Before being approved to adopt, all potential adopters need to complete our online application and participate in our pre-adoption review process. The process includes the completion of an online application, a reference from the applicants' vet, a phone interview, and a visit to the applicants' home. The application process helps us determine what type of Golden would be best suited for the applicants' life style. In some cases, the specific dog you are interested in may have found a home before this process is complete or further assessment may find that this dog is not the right match for your family. We are regularly getting new Goldens in need of a home, so we encourage you to apply and get approved so that when the right dog comes along you will be ready.

The information provided on each dog is based on observations of our vets, volunteers, fosters and when available, trainers. While we do our best to report any and all issues, SGRR does not make any guarantees as to the health or temperament of any dog. Dogs evolve differently in different environments and we cannot predict with any certainty how the dog you adopt will act in your home.

SGRR Adoption Fees (subject to change)**
Puppies under 6 months $650
Young dogs 6 months - 6 years $550
Young dogs - Special Needs $450
Senior dogs 7 - 9 years $450
Seniors dogs 10 years and older $350
Senior dogs - Special Needs $300
Young Bonded Pairs $850
Senior Bonded Pairs $750

**Please note: The fees listed represent a slight increase and are effective for applications received after June 1 2014. We regret the need to increase the fees for our dogs, but found it necessary due to the increased costs we are faced with for each dog's care and placement.

A contract is signed the day of adoption. Under the terms of the contract, all adopters are required to bring the rescue to a vet within 7 business days. The dogs receive basic veterinary care prior to adoption. If your vet identifies an illness that an adopter is not willing to treat, then the dog is returned and a full refund is provided.

Many of our dogs are fostered in private homes and we do not have a facility to visit. We are committed to our dogs before, during, and after adoption! The rescue retains title to the dog and can never be released or sold. Should the adopters no longer be able to keep the dog, SGRR must be notified so that we can take the dog back into rescue and place it into another home. We reserve the right to remove a dog at any time should we find the adopter is no longer caring for their Golden in a way we see fit. Adopters then have to agree to follow up visits as needed.

Please be a ray of light for this Sunshine dog and make a tax deductible donation toward medical and other expenses. Every cent of your generosity goes directly toward the care of a Sunshine dog.
