Oliver….what a special dog. His name should just be 'Lover' instead. Be careful, if you meet Oliver he will steal your heart and you can’t help but want to take him home…he is simply that good. Oliver has the best manners. He is always happy to see you but doesn’t jump up, nip or get too excited. When he wants attention, he will sit at your feet and wait patiently for you to pet him. He just loves to be around his people. Adjusting to new situations quickly, he has the qualities that will make him fit nicely into almost any home. He is great on the leash, greets new people politely and has shown no aggression, even at feeding time. Oliver has slept well through the night with no accidents and has only chewed on bones and nothing he shouldn't. He is learning how to play with other dogs and enjoys their company; he loves wrestling or a good chase. Oliver’s only issue is cats. He gets the urge to chase them on occasion, but is getting better with training. We are hoping to have him cured of this temptation before adoption.
You read so many descriptions of animals and they all say nice things….but after fostering many dogs, Oliver has impressed his foster parents at almost every turn. Something about this dog is just different…better. He is just plainly an awesome dog. Oliver’s dream home would be one where he can enjoy all the love he can get and the occasional car ride. Another dog around would be great, but not required. He would love to have a youngster to pal around with…..he would make a great gentle shadow for your child. Oliver was rescued from a high intake rural outdoor shelter in Southeastern Missouri where he was an unclaimed stray & found himself on death row due to overcrowding. There is no adoption program there, his only way out was to be rescued. Oliver was provided life-saving treatment for heartworm disease. He will need to remain on heartworm preventative for life, as is recommended for ALL dogs, and retested in 6 months to ensure he is heartworm free. Oliver is now healthy and looking forward to a long life of love, happiness and the occasional treat of choice….Cheetos & applesauce! Please realize that this dog has an extra special place in our hearts and we are looking for the matching special forever family to cherish him as we do.
Oliver is a Flat-Coated Retriever/mix, weighs 55 lbs and was born approximately 7/26/15. He is neutered, vaccinated, microchipped, given flea/tick preventative, dewormed and given heartworm preventative. Adoption fee is $275. The FIRST step is to have you complete our online adoption application. All adoption appointments are scheduled AFTER your application has been approved. Preference is given to those with a verifiable veterinary reference, home ownership & fenced yard. Home ownership is verified through court records. If you are a renter, you must provide landlord contact information.
