Meet Chico-- a sweet, American Pit Bull Terrier/Dogue de Bordeaux mix. Chico was found wandering the streets in the Bronx. Was he abandoned? Was he lost? We will never know. We do think that Chico was owned at some point because he clearly has had some obedience training. He knows sit, stay, come, and wait. Chico weighs around 65 pounds. Although Chico looks like a tough guy on the outside, he is really a big mush on the inside. He was another shelter favorite and his foster mom can see why!

When Chico's foster mom picked him up at the shelter, his coat was quite stinky and dirty; but he came out wagging his tail and wiggling around eager to meet any person who would give him a little attention. He arrived at his foster home and his foster mom put him right into the tub for a bath. As she scrubbed shampoo all over his fur, Chico began giving kisses as if to say, "thank you." While Chico knew some basic commands, it seemed as though he did not know how to play. Chico's foster mom began showing him all of the toys and the bones, and he has not stopped playing since his first night home!

At 2 years old, Chico is still a playful and active pup. He will need to be played with to drain some of his energy. At the same time, Chico is very easy going. You want to go for a walk? Chico would be happy to join you! You want to play fetch? Chico's your man! Tug of war? He will gently bring you the toy. You want Chico to play by himself? As long as he can be in the same room with you, he will do that too! However, his favorite thing to do is cuddle close to his foster mom at bedtime, and snuggle in her lap on the couch. He will often roll over on his back to get some extra belly rubs. He is very loveable.

Chico enjoys greeting men, women, and children. He would make a wonderful family pet. He is very friendly and well mannered. Chico gets along well with his German Shepherd mix foster sister and he often greets dogs with a play bow. He even goes to Dog Days Daycare in Hillsborough and he has a blast playing with all of the dogs there! Chico is crate trained. He has no problem relaxing in his crate while his foster mom works an 8 hour day. Chico is the whole package-- sweet, obedient, playful, and loving. All he really wants in return is to be loved back; underbite and all.

If you think that you would like to provide this gremlin faced cutie the loving home that he deserves, please fill out an application and come meet Chico at our next adoption day event. Chico is neutered, microchipped, up to date with his shots, and house trained.

Check the events page on our website for more information and directions to meet our dogs.
