My story

Here's what the humans have to say about me:

Toby is a beautiful Lemon beagle with a great personality. He is calm and gentle with people and not aggressive with other dogs. He was probably a family pet in his previous life. He is crate trained, sits on command, usually comes when called, and walks well on a leash. He often waits patiently on the porch for an invitation to enter the house, and shows the same patience at mealtime for his food bowl to be placed on the floor so he can start to eat. He will bark at walkers with or without dogs as they pass the house, and talks back to the neighborhood dogs when they bark. He is not too interested in digging in the garden, but does enjoy his time outside. He would love to have a fenced yard with one or more siblings to keep him company, but we don’t feel he would be great in a dog park with strange dogs. Toby seems to be a little timid, and he reacts to strange dogs by barking. It is most likely a fear response since he doesn’t bark at the other guys sharing his home. He does interact with the boys to some extent, but often tries to dominate them as opposed to simply playing with them. At times, he likes to be the center of attention being showered with rubs, hugs and kisses, and other times he retires to his crate for extended quiet time. During this period, he stays in his crate and doesn’t come out even though the crate door is open and we call to him.

Toby is a healthy guy, but does have a very mild heart murmur. It is not bad enough to visit a cardiologist, but makes pre-surgery blood work a must. He is very active and is not taking any medications.

I think that Toby would be happy with a family where he was the only dog, but could just as easily share his home with other canines. He is easy going and appears to fit well in any situation. He is looking for a home where he can settle in, be loved and well cared for and give love to his guardians. He really just wants a permanent place to call his own with a parent or parents that know and love him for who he is. If you’re looking for calm and loving boy, please come by to meet Toby.
