My story

Here's what the humans have to say about me:

Pip is a little long-haired chihuahua mix, less than a year old and weighing about 6 lbs. He was found as a stray, shivering from fright and the cold rain. He was terrified when we finally managed to trap him but the moment we got him home and put him down, he was jumping on his hind legs begging for attention.

Pip is a lover, and in turn is extremely lovable. Like any dog, he has his quirks and will thrive with consistent discipline, exercise, and of course affection.

- Gets along with everyone, including children, big dogs, little dogs, and probably cats. He may be just a little shy with new people, but he gets over it within minutes.

- Loves to be picked up and held.

- Appears to be housetrained if taken outside regularly (remember, small dogs have small bladders) but he does mark new territory, so he will need to be watched in the beginning. We've fashioned belly bands for him (which his adopters can have) to help prevent accidents during the adjustment period.

- Likes to play and is great with all other dogs, yet is NOT crazy hyper.

- Pip can have a stubborn, dominant streak if left uncorrected, but he responds extremely well to correction. It's important that he continue to receive consistent discipline, otherwise he may one day develop into one of those badly behaved little dogs.

- Cratetrained, though he will whine a little in the beginning. If you hush him, he will settle down.

- Pip had a bit of separation anxiety when he first came to us, but due to the consistent crate-training and alone-time he has received, this has not developed into anything serious. However, it will be up to his new adopters to continue this consistency so that he remains comfortable being alone at times (even if you plan to take him "everywhere" with you).

- Good on leash.

- Pip has shown some minor food possessiveness but has responded very well to correction.

- Likes to snuggle in strange places, like the laundry basket and on top of the crate.

- Pip is being fostered by a wonderful woman who has taught him the following commands:
-- sit
-- stay
-- bed
-- down
-- quiet
-- his name
-- let's go
-- leave it
-- no
-- "uh uh" (used interchangeably with "no")

Pip is currently being fostered in WALNUT CREEK. If you are interested in adopting him, please request an application. Our adoption process includes an application, interview, play date, reference checks, and homecheck. There is also an adoption fee in the form of a $285 tax-deductible donation to help cover our dogs' medical expenses. Pip is neutered, microchipped, and current on shots.
