My story

Here's what the humans have to say about me:

ADOPTED 3/20/11

This redheaded beauty was found all alone on the side of a Louisiana road. A kind woman found her and took her home. She tried to locate her owners but sadly, no one came forward to claim this gentle soul. Rosie is in good hands with SGRR while she awaits her forever home.

Rosie is approximately 9-10 years old and is now happily enjoying her new life in foster care! She follows her foster Mom everywhere, especially outside in the yard, and she loves settling down on a cushy dog bed. Rosie gets along well with other dogs, both big and small. She's great on a leash and is quite mobile. She takes total delight in her walks and loves to sniff all the delicious smells as she strolls along. While she's unable to jump into the car, she will politely put her front paws on the seat and waits for a "back end" lift! Rosie enjoys car rides and likes to wait in the front seat for you to come back from errands. We have discovered that the poor girl must have been neglected in the past and did not receive proper treatment for either ear mites or an ear infection. This neglect left her with cauliflower ears and impaired hearing, so Rosie has one request and that is to have her ears cleaned out once a day. Such a simple request in exchange for unconditional love! Like many seniors, her eyes are a bit cloudy which may be affecting her night vision a little but she gets along quite well.

One thing that gets this sweet girl all riled up is hard dog-play between other dogs. Like the classic “Grandma,” she will reprimand the young whippersnappers by her barks and tries to calm them down by biting them on the neck! Thus, we believe Rosie would prefer a calm household where she can enjoy her much-loved dog bed undisturbed - until you ask her to go out. Then, she will spring to her feet, always ready for a walk outside or a car ride. Rosie foster mom says she is as sweet as they get and is just a little doll. She doesn't need lots of exercise and is one of those very easy dogs who is happy just to be alive and loved. Apply today if you can give Rosie the loving home she so deserves!

About Our Rescue

Before being approved to adopt, all potential adopters need to complete our online application and participate in our pre-adoption review process. The process includes the completion of an online application, a reference from the applicants' vet, a phone interview, and a visit to the applicants' home. The application process helps us determine what type of Golden would be best suited for the applicants' life style. In some cases, the specific dog you are interested in may have found a home before this process is complete or further assessment may find that this dog is not the right match for your family. We are regularly getting new Goldens in need of a home, so we encourage you to apply and get approved so that when the right dog comes along you will be ready.

A contract is signed the day of adoption. Under the terms of the contract, all adopters are required to bring the rescue to a vet within 7 business days. The dogs receive basic veterinary care prior to adoption. If your vet identifies an illness that an adopter is not willing to treat, then the dog is returned and a full refund is provided.

The information provided on each dog is based on observations of our vets, volunteers, fosters and when available, trainers. While we do our best to report any and all issues, SGRR does not make any guarantees as to the health or temperament of any dog. Dogs evolve differently in different environments and we cannot predict with any certainty how the dog you adopt will act in your home.

Many of our dogs are fostered in private homes and we do not have a facility to visit. We are committed to our dogs before, during, and after adoption! The rescue retains title to the dog and can never be released or sold. Should the adopters no longer be able to keep the dog, SGRR must be notified so that we can take the dog back into rescue and place it into another home. We reserve the right to remove a dog at any time should we find the adopter is no longer caring for their Golden in a way we see fit. Adopters then have to agree to follow up visits as needed.
