My story

Here's what the humans have to say about me:

Picasso 1 to 2 yr old male odd eyed white Turkish Angora
regular adoption fee: see below

April, 2012, Update : Poor Picasso has come back. His adoption several months ago was such a happy one. He slept with the young daughter, amused everyone with his funny behavior .Everything was great. However, once they started integrating him with their three precious little dogs - 2 Chihuahuas and one Pomeranian -- things did not go too well. He probably just wanted to play but he was too rough, and so much bigger than they were. After much effort in seeking advice and quite a bit of time, they regretfully felt that for the safety of their dogs, they had to return him. So here he is in all his glory. A wonderful fun companion for some lucky family but no homes with toy dogs for him; bigger dogs would probably be fine.

November Update: We are thinking of changing Picasso's name to
Caruso. He makes the most amazing collection of trills and squeaks
and bubbly little sounds. Mostly musical trills. It is adorable.

He is a wonderful boy. A bit wiggly to be a good photographic model.
Such a loving sweetie. I hope someone will understand that his FIV
status is not a big deal at all and will give him a home . He will
entertain you and delight your heart.

Look at this beautiful boy!!1 What a character he is. It is as if his having one yellow eye and one blue eye and a pink nose give him permission to be a goof ball.
Want to be entertained by a one of a kind funny kitty?. He's your boy.

Turkish Angoras are thought to be the cats that originally had the gene for long hair that was used in the development of the persian breed. They have medium long silky hair that doesn't have all the undercoat persians have now have so they do not mat up like a persian. it is wonderful soft and silky fur.

Picasso loves to do everything. He lies in the sun with such utter enjoyment you cannot help but smile to see him. He loves to play. He loves wet food . He loves dry food. He loves treats . He loves attention. He loves showing off how cute he is. "Are you watching me. ?? Look at my fetching tummy." He was Dr Seuss's play companion and enjoys other cats. He is a clown. He is after all not many months beyond being a kitten.

We combo test our cats. That is to say we have them tested for Feline Leukemia ( FeLV ) and Feline Immunodeficiency Virus.( FIV ) Picasso tested positive for the lessor problem, FIV. That means he carries the virus in him. The main problem with cats with FIV is that their immune system is more challenged and they need to be more carefully protected from secondary infections like colds, bladder infections etc. With good food and good vet care many if not most of the FIV positive cats live a normal life span.

.
"If your cat has been diagnosed as FIV-positive, you'll want to work very closely with your veterinarian in designing a management program. For cats with no other symptoms, and otherwise generally good health, this might simply be a matter of ensuring he gets a sound diet, possibly with added vitamins, anti-oxidants, and Omega 3/ Omega 6 fatty acids, as well as prompt, aggressive treatment of infections and other conditions as they crop up."Dr MIke Richards
The greatest cause of death of FIV positive cats is humans who react in ignorance and automatically euthanize them. There are a number of a organizations trying to get the word out to the public and to VETS that this condition is something cats can and do live with all the time. It is not spreadable to humans and very unlikely to be spread by a neutered male to other cats. It is the tom cats fighting and mating that causes its spread. Picasso as a neutered male is not about to fight at all and could live with other gentle cats. I know several families who have researched the subject and decided it is fine to let all their cats FIV positive and negative live together. If you are interested in Picasso I suggest you read up online about the life expectancy of a FIV cat so you can judge for yourself.
Picasso is a great boy, as is FIV positive Reggie on the Scottish Fold page. Both deserve to live long happy lives with a family that will forgive them for their diagnosis and love them to the fullest.
Here's another quote from the Lange Foundation
"It is estimated that about 3% of seemingly healthy cats are actually FIV positive. Most cats are not tested before they are adopted and most owners have no reason to suspect their cat has this virus. Many, many healthy cats live long full lives without anyone knowing they have FIV."
Here is another quotation I will copy for you.
* FIV is a cat only disease and cannot be spread to humans or other non-felines. FIV cats most often live long lives and just as often have no symptoms at all. The virus is NOT easily passed between cats. People used to think it was spread via litter boxes, water/food bowls, or when cats snuggle and play. That is not the case.
* It's mainly passed through deep penetrating bite wounds. Usually the only time a cat gets this type of wound is when they are free roaming, unneutered tomcats fighting over a girl kitty who is in heat.
* Our biggest problem with FIV positive cats is that many vets are not educated about it. It was only discovered 15 years ago, so the data is just now getting out there that shows these cats can live long, healthy lives. Often when a vet hears that a cat is FIV positive they will often tell the owner either to euthanize the cat or tell them that the kitty needs to be an only cat. Neither is true.

Some family will be lucky to have the happy goofy companionship of this beautiful boy. Please give him a chance to be a loved happy boy all his life..

Picasso eats wet and dry food and its litterbox perfect.

More photo's soon.

His foster mom is Harriet in Santa Cruz.
