My story

Here's what the humans have to say about me:

**JujuBee needs a Foster or Permanent Home!**

Hi! My name's JujuBee, and I'm cute. Really really cute. I have lots of pictures and videos, but I know they're going to distract you from reading the rest of my bio, so I won't post them until later.

Oh all right, just 1.

Ok, 1 more.

Fine, but this will be the last peek.

Told you I was cute. And there's lots more where that came from. But first, down to business.

A little about myself. I'm about 2 years old and weigh 7 lbs. I appear to be a doxie/chihuahua mix, otherwise known as a chiweenie. I was originally found as a stray and was so skinny, I looked like I hadn't eaten in months. I had to stay at the shelter for a while and that was no fun. Sometimes new people came to visit and I thought one of them might take me home with them, but nobody did. I guess there were too many other dogs that looked like me and those people never paid me much attention. But the workers at the shelter were really nice to me. They called me sweet and they helped to find a rescue that would take me before my "time was up."

That's when I landed in my foster home. It's great here and I LOVE my foster mom, but I think it's time to find my own Forever Family. I've been here since April 2011, and she says she can't understand why nobody's snatched me up yet. Maybe you're my special person? Here's more about me so you can see if we might be a good match.

The good:

- I am a sweetheart of a dog, and I bond very quickly to my person. I like everyone in the house, but I especially adore my foster mom. I'll follow her everywhere. When she's working at her desk, I lay down next to her. And when she gets up to get a glass of water, I'll follow her and then safely lead her back to her desk. I like a lot of people but there's always 1 person in every home that I love most.

- I don't have much of a stubborn streak and am very receptive to voice correction.

- I'm hugely food motivated. And I like lots of healthy treats like broccoli, cucumbers, even wheatgrass!

- Once I understand what is acceptable and unacceptable behavior, I'm very well-behaved. I just want to make you happy, but need you to tell me if I'm doing something wrong.

- With the right leadership, I'm a very "easy" dog.

- I'm an extreme cuddler and snuggler. And I like to burrow under the covers. And lay on your lap!

- Introduced properly, I get along with both big and small dogs. I live with 2 big and 1 medium sized dog now and have visited many homes with lots of other dogs. My best bud now is a 2-legged rescue dog named Popeye. He gets cranky a lot and was very grumpy when I first came to live here, but I won him over and now we have lots of fun playing together. I'd do best as an only dog or living with other dogs that aren't submissive. I tend to be bossy with submissive dogs but am fine with dogs bossier than me.

- I love to play with my toys and can amuse myself running around the house with them. I especially love to take all the toys out of the toy bin one by one.

- I'm not destructive around the house.

- I'm always ready for a romp with my humans but I'm not overly hyper. I don't need hikes or marathons but enjoy a nice leisurely stroll around the neighborhood.

- I ride great in the car.

- I'm crate-trained. I can be crated at bedtime and when nobody is home. Now that I'm so used to my crate, I even like to take naps in there without anyone telling me to.

- I'm mostly housetrained.

- I'm a total lovebug and will be your most loyal companion. BFF!

The bad (or rather, the not-so-good):

- Without proper discipline, I can develop a bossy streak, so I would do best with a good leader.

- I do *not* have separation anxiety but my disposition makes me more susceptible to it, so my family has to be willing to take the (fairly easy) steps to help prevent it from developing.

- I can be a little more difficult to housetrain that your average dog if you aren't committed to doing it properly. And I have a tendency to want to mark new scents. I can't help it, they smell so interesting! But I take well to belly bands, even though I think they make my butt look big.

- I can be a little barky with new people but as long as they don't crowd me (you gotta remember I'm only 7 lbs and everybody looks like a giant to me!), I get over it very quickly.

- I'm wary of small children so would do best in a home without any.

- I like to tease/chase cats unless they stand up to me, then I'm very respectful to them. Because seriously, they can be sooo grouchy sometimes.

Here's something my foster mom wanted to add:

"As Juju's foster parents, we were and are delighted at his very endearing qualities and the ease of caring for him. We originally thought he was such as easy-going and well-behaved dog that he would be a great companion for even first-time dog owners. However, after his various experiences with being dogsat in other households, we realize that he is easy-going and well-behaved only if shown basic discipline (which every dog is in our home). In a household completely lacking in guidance and the will to show him what is acceptable behavior, he can take on some of those annoying "little dog" qualities."

It is therefore very important to my well-being that I not only be loved and exercised, but also shown boundaries and discipline. Once a proper routine is established and I understand my place in the pack hierarchy, I promise to bring immense joy and laughter to your life. I will be absolutely devoted to you and what I lack in size I'll make up in spirit and heart.

If you are interested in being my Forever Home, please send an email to request an adoption application. I'm currently being fostered in SACRAMENTO. There is a $200 tax-deductible adoption fee to help cover my medical expenses as well as those of the many other dogs the rescue has taken in. I'm neutered, microchipped, current on shots, and heartworm-tested negative. A homecheck will also be required to ensure I go to an environment best suited to me.

Before you decide you might be interested in adopting me, please read about general Chihuahua temperaments here (under the "Temperament" section): http://www.dogbreedinfo.com/chihuahua.htm.

Are you ready for some sugar overload now??

That's me, sleeping *under* the dog bed.

Ready for duty.

Here's the first video foster mom and dad ever took of me:

Here's me & the resident pitbull, Phoebe, snuggling with foster mom.

Playing with Popeye, the resident 2-legged dog, for the first time. It took a few days but now we're best buds.

Dancing around foster mom as she works, trying to get to her lap.

I take burrowing to a whole new level.

Raiding the toy bin.

Playing with Popeye some more.

Enjoying some fresh wheatgrass.
