I was forced to sell my house in June and my son is living in the Philippines. He is having some problems that need to be attended to and am there now. Ricky, my neighbor, is taking care of her now, but he also has to leave the country in a couple of weeks.
She is a pure breed yellow Lab, we bought her from a breeder in the LA area seven years ago. Born April 28 7 years ago, and spayed before she was 1 year old. She had a fractured right elbow when she about 2 years old, which was operated on. Her anal glands were removed about three years ago. On her last visit to the vet at Brentwood Family Pet Care, she showed a marginal problem with her thyroid and she began to take medicine, but there was no follow up, so that still has to be looked after. She has sores on her elbows caused by the concrete floors in the garage she is being kept in now.
I am sending the fee for her three year licence today. I have a print out of her record at the vet and will leave a copy with Ricky.
Maggie is fairly quiet, she will bark when the door bell rings. She has had a trainer from K9 and knows the standard commands, sit, down, come (sometimes, "cookie" works much better) and wait (instead of stay). I tell her "lets go" when I want her to go or walk with me and "go inside or outside" for her to go through a door or a car. Maggie loves to take walks and swim. She also loves car rides and doesn't get car sick. . She does heal, but doesn't know the command, just walk with her close on her right side with a tight leash. Give a small sharp jerk when she goes too fast or wants to stop to sniff something. She has run off when she was young, but hasn't done that recently. I still keep her on a leash when walking. The kids let her loose in the front yard with no problems.
Maggie may be nervous at first with strangers especially men. I usually advice strangers not try to pet Maggie for a minute, let her smell and get used to the person to be sure there is no barking. She has never bitten anyone or fought a dog although she doesn't like small dogs or cats. However, she is friendly with the cat at Ricky's.
We love Maggie dearly and it breaks our heart to think that we may be forced to take her to the shelter. If you can provide a comforting home for Maggie, we would love to meet you.
