My story

Here's what the humans have to say about me:

Adopted 12/26/11

Tucker is a sweet, sweet boy with a smile a mile wide. Somehow 14-month-old Tucker found himself at the Colbert Shelter in Tuscunbia, AL. He is such a nice dog that SGRR was thrilled at the opportunity to be able to find this fellow a forever home! He is now in a loving foster home in New England and his foster mom is head over heals in love with this sweet dog. She cannot say enough good things about him!

“Tucker is healthy and has a hearty appetite, which is helping him fill out a little. Tucker has a medium activity level and loves to walk. We walk at least 5 or 6 times a day. Tucker is pretty good on the leash, tugs a little if he sees a squirrel, but overall a good walker. He doesn’t like passing trucks or vehicles that make loud noises. He loves to meet people on his walks and settles down quickly once we are back home. We came across a woman walking a toddler in a baby carriage and he loved greeting him and wagged his tail the entire time.

Tucker is always happy to meet other dogs. He is currently living with our 8 year old Golden mix Teddy and they get along well. I feed both dogs at the same time but at different areas in the kitchen and have seen no food possession issues. He likes the toys we have and shares them nicely. Tucker is excellent in the car. He loves to takes rides and sits well in the back seat. He is crate trained but I only use it if I need to leave him alone for a few hours.

Tucker was definitely someone’s pet because he is well behaved. He listens well and loves to be petted. He loves to cuddle and tuck his nose under our arms. I live in a dorm with 41 teenage girls; Tucker is an absolute love and in a few weeks, he has them eating out of his paws!

If people could only see him now - I’m laying in bed with my laptop typing. He is laying right next to me with his head resting on my shoulder and his paw resting on my arm. What a love!

Tucker is a mini-sized Golden mix, probably with some Collie or Sheltie. What he may lack in the proportion of a full-size Golden, he makes up for with the size of the love he has to offer. He is a perfect sized-dog for any living situation – whether you live in a private home, condo, or apartment. Tucker wishes for an owner who is home more often than not and has time to train a young pup. With patience and love, this fellow will surely turn into a wonderful companion. About Our Rescue

Before being approved to adopt, all potential adopters need to complete our online application and participate in our pre-adoption review process. The process includes the completion of an online application, a reference from the applicants' vet, a phone interview, and a visit to the applicants' home. The application process helps us determine what type of Golden would be best suited for the applicants' life style. In some cases, the specific dog you are interested in may have found a home before this process is complete or further assessment may find that this dog is not the right match for your family. We are regularly getting new Goldens in need of a home, so we encourage you to apply and get approved so that when the right dog comes along you will be ready.

A contract is signed the day of adoption. Under the terms of the contract, all adopters are required to bring the rescue to a vet within 7 business days. The dogs receive basic veterinary care prior to adoption. If your vet identifies an illness that an adopter is not willing to treat, then the dog is returned and a full refund is provided.

The information provided on each dog is based on observations of our vets, volunteers, fosters and when available, trainers. While we do our best to report any and all issues, SGRR does not make any guarantees as to the health or temperament of any dog. Dogs evolve differently in different environments and we cannot predict with any certainty how the dog you adopt will act in your home.

Many of our dogs are fostered in private homes and we do not have a facility to visit. We are committed to our dogs before, during, and after adoption! The rescue retains title to the dog and can never be released or sold. Should the adopters no longer be able to keep the dog, SGRR must be notified so that we can take the dog back into rescue and place it into another home. We reserve the right to remove a dog at any time should we find the adopter is no longer caring for their Golden in a way we see fit. Adopters then have to agree to follow up visits as needed.
