My story

Here's what the humans have to say about me:

Well, hello everyone! My name is Mr. Sampson and I am a young 8 year old male. Everybody calls me Sammy. My previous family had to surrender me to SCLRR after losing our home but I am adjusting just fine. I am a happy tail wagging kind of guy at all times. When I first came into rescue I weighed 122 lbs. I am on a very strict diet since I got here to shed the extra weight. I am happy to say, I am now down to 100 lbs. I am still a little chubby but that is part of my charm. My foster mommy says that I could stand to lose 20 more lbs just to be at my ideal weight. I am ready for the challenge, bring it on!!! My foster mom says that I will need to be on a controlled diet and exercise so I keep losing weight.
When I first came into rescue I had corneal ulcer on my right eye. I was very, very uncomfortable with that. The nice lady doctor that treated me explained to me that I had ulceration or tearing of the cornea. Once the outermost layer of the cornea has been torn, the area becomes irritated and painful. This caused me to squint and my eyes to tear more than normal. In order to help with my healing, both of my eyelids were stapled back temporarily. Once I got into rescue I have been treated for all of that and now I feel great. I got a dental cleaning and senior blood panel and my blood tests came back great. You might know me from the Labs in Need section of SCLRR website since I have been there for a while now.

I am now ready to find my own family to love and live happily ever after with. I love people and kids so much. I live here with 3 other labs and I play with them sometimes. I can also be an only dog; I don t mind having all the attention on myself. My foster mom says that she and I have never met a cat while we have been living together so she thinks it may be a good idea if I do not live in a house with cats as I am a bit too interested in the rabbits outside my foster home.

I will be very respectful of your home. I am extremely low maintenance. I am completely trustwothy in the house; I do not have bad habits like chewing or stealing others toys. I will be honest , I love food, like most labs, so if you leave food down where I can get it I may be tempted to help myself! I am fully housetrained and I definitely know how to use a doggy door.

I can do 2-3-4 walks a day, for about 20-30 minutes each time. I love going out for walks. I don t pull on the leash unless I see another dog - I just want to say hi. I definitely have the energy to keep up with you on walks - I can even walk 2 miles. I am currently on medication for arthritis (Metacam - small dosage) that I will need to be on for the rest of my life. I was told it is really inexpensive, less than $10.00 a month. I don't have any money so I would really appreciate it if my new family would be willing to pay for that.

I am low energy and I believe that resting my head on someone's lap is the most awesome adventure ever. My foster mom says this is the kind of thing you can get all the time when you go to a forever family. My foster mom is great at giving me tons of love but the more I hear about these 'forever families' the more I think I would love one of my own. My foster mom says that SCLRR families make the best forever families in the whole world so I think that is the kind of forever family for me. If you can give me that, please contact your family rep.
