Here's what the humans have to say about me:
Jesme. Born approximately July 2010. purebred Pixie Bob spayed female
Special Note: While we are always thankful for donations, we realize that it takes a heart of gold to take on such a cat as this. We will waive the adoption fee if someone would like to take her on as their special "heart kitty" and take some time to socialize her.
In March 2011 we got an urgent notice about a breeder in Arizona who was being evicted from her home. On the property were nearly 95 cats. They had been left there for over a year with just a caretaker coming in to feed & water them. They were mostly unsocialized, but we were told
that there was a good chance they could become loving kitties with some time and TLC. Most were in good health, with just some minor things such as ear mites, that needed treatment.
Purebreds Plus took in taken in 11 of them. One year later we still have three of these cats in foster care. Jesme is one of them who has continued to perplex us. You can see her picture "behind bars" that was taken when she was living in the poor situation in Arizona.
Normally we can turn a cat like this around in a few short months but she has foiled us at every turn. She started out completely feral. We never saw her for the first few months except as a flash when she ran behind a piece of furniture. We've tried various socialization techniques that worked with many cats in the past, but she's being a real diva. She has learned to enjoy living inside a home with humans. She'll follow you around like a little shadow, getting within a few feet
of you. She gets down right bossy when it comes to getting her wet food at night. She is good about using her litter box indoors now. But we can't touch her. If she falls asleep and you sneak up on her and touch her she will literally fly off of whatever surface she's laying on.
The one exception to her being touched we have documented. Someone came over to adopt Ivan and Monica. While they were there, Jesme came out to watch the proceedings and hang out with her family. Since we were occupied elsewhere no one, including her, happened to notice that this particular Cat Whisperer Adopter was pulling something sneaky on Jesme. She kept putting her hand closer and closer, all the while keeping up a casual conversation with us. Pretty soon she was touching Jesme and then she was even able to pet her just a bit. This time when Jesme noticed a hand on her, she looked at it, thought about it for a bit, and then decided to hop down rather than launching herself into thin air to get away. Please view a short video clip of Jesme's shining moment.
We wish that person had been looking for a third cat, but it was not to be. We are hoping that somewhere out there we will find another Cat Whisperer who is willing to take on this life time project kitty and see if they can help her trust people and maybe even give her a home for the
rest of her life.
