My story

Here's what the humans have to say about me:

Going to Adopt A Golden - 4/12/12

There are times that we at SGRR wonder why some people have dogs. The man who formerly owned Harry, also owned two other Golden retrievers named Bear and Nick. This man had no time for any of these dogs, nor did he share any bond with these 3 sweet souls. He kept them as livestock, penned outside all day and night. None of the dogs received any true human interaction or socialization. He simply fed and watered them and kept their pens moderately clean. When he traveled for his job for 2-3 weeks at a time, he paid someone to come and feed and water the dogs once a day. Other than having each other for company, this trio was alone all day and all night.

Bear and Nick are extremely bonded and must be adopted together. They are gorgeous AKC registered pure bred Golden males. Bear is 7 years old and has a gorgeous red coat. Nick is lighter in color and is almost 5. Bear is just as his name indicates – a big loveable teddy bear. Bear wants nothing but love and attention! After being shunned from most human companionship all his life, who could blame him! Nick is very shy and relies totally on Bear for security. These two "best friends" are tied together at the heartstrings and truly deserve to live the rest of their life together and we would never have the heart to separate them.

Can you imagine having dogs as beautiful as these fellows are and not socializing them? Could you imagine not taking your beloved pals for walks? Could you imagine leaving them penned out all their lives and not allowing them to know what it’s like to be truly loved?

Bear and Nick are as sweet as can be and all they want is to be loved and cherished. They need a loving hand to show them what it feels like to be petted and caressed tenderly. They need an owner who can provide some special TLC to help them learn what it is like to live inside a home. In our opinion these two "best friends" are devoted to each other and show that having two is truly as easy as having one dog. They do everything together - eat together, sleep together, play together. They will keep each other company and you won't have to worry about a lonely dog when you are away from home for a bit. If you have room in your heart to make these two gentle souls a part of your life, you will be rewarded every day they are with you with tail wags, warm gentle kisses and two pups who seem to have a look on their face that says "thank you for loving us" each time they look at you.

About Our Rescue

Before being approved to adopt, all potential adopters need to complete our online application and participate in our pre-adoption review process. The process includes the completion of an online application, a reference from the applicants' vet, a phone interview, and a visit to the applicants' home. The application process helps us determine what type of Golden would be best suited for the applicants' life style. In some cases, the specific dog you are interested in may have found a home before this process is complete or further assessment may find that this dog is not the right match for your family. We are regularly getting new Goldens in need of a home, so we encourage you to apply and get approved so that when the right dog comes along you will be ready.

A contract is signed the day of adoption. Under the terms of the contract, all adopters are required to bring the rescue to a vet within 7 business days. The dogs receive basic veterinary care prior to adoption. If your vet identifies an illness that an adopter is not willing to treat, then the dog is returned and a full refund is provided.

The information provided on each dog is based on observations of our vets, volunteers, fosters and when available, trainers. While we do our best to report any and all issues, SGRR does not make any guarantees as to the health or temperament of any dog. Dogs evolve differently in different environments and we cannot predict with any certainty how the dog you adopt will act in your home.

Many of our dogs are fostered in private homes and we do not have a facility to visit. We are committed to our dogs before, during, and after adoption! The rescue retains title to the dog and can never be released or sold. Should the adopters no longer be able to keep the dog, SGRR must be notified so that we can take the dog back into rescue and place it into another home. We reserve the right to remove a dog at any time should we find the adopter is no longer caring for their Golden in a way we see fit. Adopters then have to agree to follow up visits as needed.
