Newman's Story...
Newman: aka Paul - 2 to 3 yr old male lynx point ragdoll

Well you can't take a bad photo of this beautiful cat. His shelter
photo was so astonishing it got our attention and got him out of
there. This wonderful kitty arrived in the shelter very very upset.
It was "rescue must take him" or nothing for him. He was so very
frightened he spit at us and we have no idea why. He was a baby, not
yet a year old. Good body weight. His big ruff hadn't grown in yet.
We gave him space and food and over time - a lot of time- he has
recovered. You know how sensitive Ragdolls are and we have seen them
take a LONG time to recover from a trauma. I think we have had
Newman a year and a half or so.

He has always shown defensive fear never aggression; he has never
bitten or scratched us, but his early spitting frightened us it was
so new to us. It used to be when we would pet him he would flinch
under our hands. So scared. And yet he likes being petted. Now we can
rub his belly, carefully pick him up, thump him a little. He has
relaxed. Recently he has started having other kitties in his room and
little Zandrea has become his special girlfriend( see photo below )
( I will admit she was not yet spayed when she caught his attention)
( of course she choose the studliest neutered male, Paul Newman, to
flirt with ).

He eats wet and dry and is litterbox perfect. All that is fine.
However I am worrying that the move to a new home will send him
backward for a while. I am looking for just the right experienced,
patient family to welcome him into their home and let him come
forward again. Maybe he will surprise us and be thrilled to be in his
new home but I want to plan that he won't just in case. When
settled, he will blossom into a full life. He is a super sweet guy
and has a loyal fan club with us who know him.

His new home could have some gentle cats in it- he is clearly cat
friendly. No dogs would be safest since we really don't know what he
likes or has been through that hurt him in his first year. So a
quiet home with one or two adults who will give him love and all the
time in the world for him to relax and love them back. would be
great. Rescued cats are the most grateful and he will be a very
loving and interesting companion. He can make any photographer look
really good. even me.

By the way he really loves baskets. And windows.

HIs foster mom is Harriet in Santa Cruz.

Why Adoption is a Great Option

Newman, a Davis Ragdoll cat was adopted! Here's how you can benefit by looking at adoption as an option to buying a Ragdoll for sale in Davis, or seeking a Ragdoll cat from a breeder in Davis.

  1. Rescues and shelter volunteers in Davis already know the personality and tendencies of their pets. This means they can match you with the right pet. That will makes it much easier transition to owning a pet for yourself and your new pet.
  2. On average adoption fees are much less than you'd pay a Davis breeder, or pet store. Plus most often rescue pets have already been to the veterinarian for a check-up, had a round of vaccinations, and are spayed or neutered. That is a lot of savings!
  3. You will become a hero, and give a needy dog or cat a loving home. In fact, there are even Ragdoll breeders who help with Ragdoll rescue. One puppy or kitten adopted in Davis paves the way for another one to be saved.
