Here's what the humans have to say about me:
Thunder is a mellow and sweet, six-year-old, 60-pound, male, glossy black and white Lab/Pit-mix looking for a loving guardian. Thunder was rescued from the pound in Gary, Indiana. He had a bump on his head, and an injury to one of his rear legs. It’s guessed that he had been hit by a car. Thunder can’t see that well; he has 15% vision in one eye and 6% vision in the other. Since he’s almost blind, it’s not surprising that he is easily startled by someone sneaking up on him. But amazingly, he still loves to play fetch. He will listen for the ball to bounce and go in that direction. He’s also quite the lap dog and loves to cuddle.
Thunder is living in a foster home where he has proven great with dogs of all sizes as well as cats. He is not crazy about overly playful dogs. But, he is great with a dominant male German Shepherd that typically does not like other males, but he accepts Thunder into his pack. Because of his vision problems, Thunder sometimes bumps into other dogs or lands on them if he jumps down off of a bed or couch. Most dogs are understanding of his clumsiness, but some dogs may not be. He is great with people of all ages including children, however toys on the floor are confusing to him as he memorizes his environment so he can get around.
When he goes to a new foster home, he immediately tries to figure out the path to the door and has been housebroken wherever he goes when taken out regularly. He is also crate-trained. He is great on leash, at the vet and in the car. He is full of tail wags and kisses for the people he loves. He knows the command sit and does so automatically when he smells a treat or hears the crinkle of a treat bag. He is food-motivated and takes treats gently from your fingers. He’s looking for a quiet home where someone can keep him on a solid routine. Thunder is neutered, up-to-date on vaccines, micro-chipped, heartworm-tested and on preventative. And, even though the rescue group spent over $3,000 on his vet care … his adoption fee is only $200. To meet and possibly adopt him, please contact Melia at melia88@comcast.net or 708-224-1900. He is currently living in a foster home in Round Lake, Illinois.
