My story

Here's what the humans have to say about me:

Spanky was found by friends of ours who own a horse rescue here in southwest New Mexico (www.endoftheroadranch.com). We are certain he was dumped on their ranch. He had a grapefruit sized tumor on his chest, which they were kind and gracious to pay for 2 surgeries to have it removed. They also paid for his teeth to be cleaned and for his shots. He has recuperated fabulously and shows no signs of ill health, other than a heart murmur.

I spent a lot of time with this little guy and he is just a calm, cool, quiet lap dog who walks well on leash, comes when you call him, is comfortable around other dogs and horses.

We don't have a definite age for Spanky, but he's older, probably around 6 years old and shows some grey around his muzzle and eyes. He gets along with dogs, cats and children. He weighs 17 lbs.. He is very attentive, even if he starts chasing a rabbit he will come when called. He loves going for walks and is fast, but tuckers out after a bit. Wants to be with you and is easy to bathe. He does suffer from separation anxiety (which is workable) and has a heart murmur, which has slowed him down to a normal dog's energy!

He has been trained to stay off of the furniture but will jump right up if you leave the room (also workable). His favorite spot is in your lap and although the rescue volunteers don't encourage it, he would love to find someone who did! An active, retired person or couple would be a perfect new home for Spanky!
