Sonny is a Doxi/Chi mix. Estimate to be 15-20 pounds. BHS pulled Sonny and her three puppy from the Bedford pound weeks ago. Sonny is now through raising her puppies and she did an excellent job. Now it is Sonny's time to find a FOREVER home home where Sonny gets all the love and attention she deserves. She is sweet and and not afraid of anything. Sonny would love to sit in your lap or just go for a long walk with. She is crate trained and house broke. She loves to run and kick her back legs like a little bunny. She gets a long with other dogs. She is up to date medically except for spay in the middle of November.

The Bedford Humane Society is a 501(c)(3) nonprofit organization founded in 1994 and dedicated to eliminating the overpopulation of cats and dogs in Bedford County through education, spay/neuter programs, and companion animal adoptions. We are NOT the tax-funded Bedford County shelter on Falling Creek Road, although we do try to help the animals there whenever possible. Our adoptable pets live in volunteer foster homes where they receive the care and attention they deserve while awaiting a permanent home.
Our various programs for Bedford County and City of Bedford residents include::
•A low cost spay/neuter program for area pets
•The construction of a no kill animal shelter, The Vernon D Lybolt Adoption Center, at 829 Ole Turnpike Road in Bedford.
•Find homes for abandoned and homeless animals through our adoption and transport programs.
•Help pet owners with unexpected expenses involving their pets, through our Emergency Fund program.
•Provide humane traps and spay/neuter subsidies for feral cats through our Forgotten Felines program.
•Humane Education program for area Scout troops and schools.
Until we are able to build our No-Kill Shelter, our adoptable pets live in foster homes throughout Bedford County and surrounding areas. If you are interested in meeting a pet, please submit an adoption application or contact our main office.

Now, the first step is to complete an adoption application on our website at http://bhsva.org/adoptions-home.htm. This is not a commitment to adopt. It is simply the first step in the process.
We will review your application for preliminary approval before asking the foster parent to contact you to set up a time to meet the pet. You may also have concerns about how the animal will fit your home environment. When the foster parent contacts you, you will be able to discuss your concerns with someone who has first-hand experience with the pet.
After you meet the animal, you and the foster parent can decide if this is definitely the forever pet for you.
