CAPTAIN IS ONCE AGAIN LOOKING FOR HIS FOREVER HOME! 9/3/15: CAPTAIN HAS FINALLY FOUND HIS FOREVER HOME! WE WISH CAPTAIN AND HIS NEW FAMILY THE BEST-YOU WILL BE MISSED CAPTAIN BUT WE ARE SO HAPPY FOR YOU!CAPTAIN IS PAD ( pick adoption fee) ELIGIBLE! You tell us what you want to pay based on what you feel our rescue efforts and Captain's friendship are worth to you! The vet tells us that Captain's heartworms are gone! He has been successfully treated and has also obtained his 3 year rabies tag...if only he had a family to share his good news with! We have discovered that Captain has a neat trick...if we move his food bowl out of his perceived "kitchen", he will pick it up and bring it back where he thinks it needs to go-very cute! He also does awesome with my 4 year old grandson..loves playing catch with him. He loves playing with the other dogs too! He is a sweet, loving boy who is going to make a wonderful dog for someone who can find it in their heart to adopt him! Captain is a gorgeous black and white pitbull terrier/possibly akita mix that we picked up after he was found wandering around our local flea market. After talking to several people, we discovered that he had been wandering the streets for several days. He had attached himself to a boy who was visiting the market and we believed that he might have belonged to him but after questioning him, he denied that the dog was his.We attempted to find his owner but to no avail so we are listing him for adoption. He is a very nice dog, probably around 1-2 years old and apparently had been socialized well. He has interacted with our other dogs fine but because he is not yet neutered, we have had to segregate him because one of the females here had gone into heat. He ,of course, has been a bit more vivacious with all of the hormones floating around but that will change when he is neutered. He loves people(including children) and does not mind other dogs(any size). We do not know how he is with cats. He is leash trained and does not attempt to jump out of 4 foot fencing. He is a bit stubborn and head strong at times but this is typical of the breed. He should be adopted by someone who understands this breed and how powerful they are. Although he is an easy going dog, a first time dog owner may not understand his needs or may be intimidated by his size (approx 60 pounds as of June 4th) and strength. He should always be made to respect his people and should never be allowed to become dominant. having said this, Captain will make an awesome companion for the right family. I can see him enjoying a hike or lounging around in the house with his family. He is a happy boy with a playful, fun side! Great family dog who also will give his new family a sense of security with his size. Don't pass this great dog up! His adoption fee is (you choose) and will cover his vetting and care while with us. If you are interested in adopting Captain, please fill out our adoption application and e-mail your interest!

About Paws & Claws

About Our Rescue Group...

We are a small rescue started in September 2004. To date, we have adopted out over 250 dogs and cats who may not have had a second chance. We rescue the majority of our pets from kill shelters and have them thoroughly vetted prior to going to their new homes. All of our pets are spayed/neutered, vaccinated, heartworm checked(dogs) and dewormed. We also microchip our dogs so that they can always find their way home. Big and small, we work to rehome them all. We are always in need of donations so if you can help us to help our pets, please contact us! The more people who get involved, the more pets that we can save! You can also see our pets and/or fill out our adoption application on We look forward to hearing from you and making that "forever match"!

Come Meet Our Pets...

We operate from our home so our pets can be seen by appointment only. Please call or e-mail(prefer) to schedule a time to visit.

Our Adoption Process...

We require an adoption application to be filled out and approved prior to any adoption. Our adoption fee for our dogs is $125.00 and up and for most of our cats that still require vetting it is $75.00. We currently have a special adoption fee for our cats who are already completely vetted(spayed/neutered and UTD vacc )You can adopt one of these kitties for ONLY $25.00!!! If for any reason a pet that you adopt can not remain with you, we require that the pet be returned to Paws & Claws to be rehomed. We do NOT give refunds for any reason so please consider adoption carefully before you take a pet home. We also ONLY accept CASH as payment for our adoption fees. Our main requirement to adopt is LOVE! If you can offer love to a needy pet, please consider adoption. Your reward will be a devoted friend for life.
