Tommy Tripod's Story...
Tommy Tripod : 5 month old red tabby male Maine Coon mix
Trixie Tripod: 5 month old red tabby female Maine Coon mix: ADOPTED 5 11 13

March update: Tommy and Trixie are doing great. They race all over and are definite play monsters. They are happy, healthy gorgeous kittens who just happen to have three legs each. They are super loving to all humans, familiar and unfamiliar. They are slower to accept other cats and would probably do best as the only cats in the household..I don't know about dogs.

Update: Tommy is larger than his sister with a great plume of a red tail. He is currently a little shy but he overcomes that quickly as he plays. He is very soft fur is a glorious deep red color. And his nose is sooo pink.
> Some mysteries are never solved. This is likely to be one of them.
> A Purebreds foster mom was talking a late afternoon walk with her
> mother down their country road. . It was one of those super cold
> December days when the sun sets at 4:30. Hearing a little " mew"
> they looked around and found these two gorgeous red tabby kittens.
> Of course they scooped them up and brought them home. The kittens were
> friendly and not super thin so they felt they had not been there more
> than a day or two. Busy. high traffic road. While setting them up for
> the night they noticed the boy kitten was missing a right rear leg.
> "Oh my" her mom said "Look!" Then they sort of entered the twilight
> zone as they saw that the other kitten also was missing her right rear
> leg. They were identical tripod kittens. No wounds no blood no scabs.
> Just no right rear legs.
> When they went to the vet to be spay neutered the vet examined them
> and said" No, it is not a birth defect. Something happened to their
> legs at an early age." Cats do very well on three legs and even better
> when the missing leg is a rear leg.

So there is the mystery. I have no idea how this came about. And never will, I guess, though of course it drives me nuts not to
know. A clue may be that they do not like dogs at all. But maybe
they were just fearful for other reasons. They each get along on their legs very well and are happy, loving, playful kittens.

You can see they are super adorable. Along with much of the world I am a big lover of red tabby Maine Coon mixes. The sweet loving nature of the red tabbies is well known. I know there is a family out there who will take in this pair and enjoy them so much. They need a home without dogs.

I have just gotten them from the original foster mom and don't have new photos yet. More info soon.( It is 1/ 8/ 13 )

They eat wet and dry food and are litterbox perfect. Some kind-heated family will love these beautiful Tripod Twins.

Their foster mom is Harriet in Santa Cruz.

Why Adoption is a Great Option

Tommy Tripod, a Davis Maine Coon kitten was adopted! Here's how you can benefit by looking at adoption as an option to buying a Maine Coon for sale in Davis, or seeking a Maine Coon kitten from a breeder in Davis.

  1. Rescues and shelter volunteers in Davis already know the personality and tendencies of their pets. This means they can match you with the right pet. That will makes it much easier transition to owning a pet for yourself and your new pet.
  2. On average adoption fees are much less than you'd pay a Davis breeder, or pet store. Plus most often rescue pets have already been to the veterinarian for a check-up, had a round of vaccinations, and are spayed or neutered. That is a lot of savings!
  3. You will become a hero, and give a needy dog or cat a loving home. In fact, there are even Maine Coon breeders who help with Maine Coon rescue. One puppy or kitten adopted in Davis paves the way for another one to be saved.
