Mena's Info...

I am already spayed, up to date with shots, good with kids, good with dogs, and good with cats.

Mena's Story...
Pretty little Mena is an about 3 years old, spayed female. She is young enough to still be playful & fun, but quite happy to curl up next to you where you'll find petting her beautiful, soft fur to be addictive. She was named for the sweet little girl who found her on cold & wet doorstep when she was still a kitten. Sadly the little girl was allergic to cats, so Mena came to BHS to find a home that would love her forever. She is good with most other cats & dogs, but she would be content to be an only pet. This kitty with the pretty, unusual markings has had her virus testing & is current on vaccines & deworming. For more information, call 586-6100 or email

About Bedford Humane Society

About Our Rescue Group...

The Bedford Humane Society is a 501(c)(3) nonprofit organization founded in 1994 and dedicated to eliminating the overpopulation of cats and dogs in Bedford County through education, spay/neuter programs, and companion animal adoptions. We are NOT the tax-funded Bedford County shelter on Falling Creek Road, although we do try to help the animals there whenever possible. Our adoptable pets live in volunteer foster homes where they receive the care and attention they deserve while awaiting a permanent home.

Our various programs for Bedford County and City of Bedford residents include::

•A low cost spay/neuter program for area pets
•The construction of a no kill animal shelter, The Vernon D Lybolt Adoption Center, at 829 Ole Turnpike Road in Bedford.
•Find homes for abandoned and homeless animals through our adoption and transport programs.
•Help pet owners with unexpected expenses involving their pets, through our Emergency Fund program.
•Provide humane traps and spay/neuter subsidies for feral cats through our Forgotten Felines program.
•Humane Education program for area Scout troops and schools.

Come Meet Our Pets...

Until we are able to build our No-Kill Shelter, our adoptable pets live in foster homes throughout Bedford County and surrounding areas. If you are interested in meeting a pet, please submit an adoption application or contact our main office.

We also hold monthly adoption events at our Headquarters and the Bedford Tractor Supply. Visit our website or our Facebook page for dates and times. If you would like to be added to our monthly events email list, please send a request to

Our Adoption Process...

Have you discovered a pet you wish to adopt? Great!

Now, the first step is to complete an adoption application on our website at This is not a commitment to adopt. It is simply the first step in the process.

We will review your application for preliminary approval before asking the foster parent to contact you to set up a time to meet the pet. You may also have concerns about how the animal will fit your home environment. When the foster parent contacts you, you will be able to discuss your concerns with someone who has first-hand experience with the pet.

After you meet the animal, you and the foster parent can decide if this is definitely the forever pet for you.
