Our handsome boy Freddie came all the way up from Georgia to find that perfect someone... Freddie is a pharough hound/shepherd mix that is around a year old and we're so happy to have him. He went into the shelter down south after being picked up as a stray, and spent several months there waiting for a good home. He is hoping he'll have better luck here in NJ! Freddie is such a fun-loving and happy guy. He is always smiling and when you go to take him for a walk, he can hardly contain himself and his wiggly-butt. Freddie has lots of energy and loves to run and play in our exercise yard. He would really love a home with an active family that would take him on long walks and play fetch with him in a nice yard. Freddie is a strong boy but very well behaved. He seems interested in other dogs and gets along well with people of all ages. The Associated Humane Societies, founded in 1906, is the largest animal sheltering system in New Jersey. We comprise three shelters located in Newark, Forked River, and Tinton Falls . Our Forked River facility also includes Popcorn Park Zoo. Established in 1977, Popcorn Park Zoo is a sanctuary for abandoned, injured, ill, exploited, abused or elderly wildlife, exotic and farm animals, and birds.
The Society is a not for profit, 501 (c) 3 organization, and Popcorn Park is also a federally licensed zoo. The Society prides itself on our devotion to the thousands of animals that we care for annually and the chance for a better life we offer them. Our animal shelter is open to the public Monday through Friday from 12pm to 6pm, and Saturday and Sunday from 12pm to 5pm.
We require a completed adoption application which can be obtained at our facility, or from our website: www.ahscares.org. We also require proof of home ownership if you own, or a copy of a lease stating that pets are allowed with no restrictions if you rent. We require vet records for any pets owned in the last five years as well. Our adoption fees vary based on age, breed, etc. Please call our facility for exact fee 609-693-1900.
We are the primary Animal Control for Barnegat, Waretown, West Creek, Surf City. We take in animals in need from all of the country.
