My story

Here's what the humans have to say about me:

Adopted 5/8/13!!!

Update from Hope's foster Dad: Hope’s Foster Dad tells us that Hope is SO good, SO sweet, and SO well behaved. She does not get into anything she shouldn't and it is obvious that she was well trained earlier in life. Now that it is Spring, Hope loves her outdoor hikes. She may start to go ahead on her long lead, but she always looks back to be sure he is in sight. Hope gets along with all animals, but it is obvious she adores people best. She barks if she hears something to alert her people, but she then greets visitors in a friendly way and she is quiet while with her people. Her Foster Dad loves her but since he works, he knows she would be happiest in a home with someone around most of the time to speak gently to her and give her the attention she craves. Hope is awesome!!

Bio: Beautiful Hope, a 7-year old Golden Retriever/Great Pyrenees mix, is back with Sunshine looking for a home because she behaves as every good Golden/Great Pyrenees should--loving her family and protecting them with all her heart. Hope's family has a large farm where she would never be alone, and we all thought it would be perfect. But as Hope settled in she felt she should protect them from farm workers and strangers who she saw as intruders. With the family's farm stand opening soon, they came to the heartbreaking realization that their situation is too active for her, and she would do best in a quieter home where she did not feel overwhelmed.

Hope needs a family with someone home most of the time, preferably with another pet for companionship, and no children under 10. She likes cats, peacocks, chickens, goats, bunnies, and gets along with most other dogs. She loves riding in the car with her people and is very social with her family, sweet and gentle and loving.

Her recent foster Dad told us: "Hope just wants to be loved and will sit next to me for as long as the petting lasts. She is so sweet and gentle. A friend just stopped by with an 8 week old puppy and Hope was so great with him. She is a great dog!! She will sometimes take treats out of my hand very gently but most times I have to set it on the floor. She does like the couch now. She is no problem and is good with all the others."

Hope's first Sunshine home was a happy place for her for most of her life. She rode in an ice cream truck each summer meeting children and 'working' with her Dad. Hope does not want to be left alone, and when left in her fenced back yard she barked at strangers walking by. Her Dad's landlord said Hope had to go, and that is how Hope lost her previous Sunshine home.

Hope is a wonderful dog, trained, well-behaved and gentle, who needs a family that understands her protective instincts. We know there is a home where Hope can live the rest of her life in happiness. Please inquire about her, if you feel you have a home that would work for this great dog.

About Our Rescue

Before being approved to adopt, all potential adopters need to complete our online application and participate in our pre-adoption review process. The process includes the completion of an online application, a reference from the applicants' vet, a phone interview, and a visit to the applicants' home. The application process helps us determine what type of Golden would be best suited for the applicants' life style. In some cases, the specific dog you are interested in may have found a home before this process is complete or further assessment may find that this dog is not the right match for your family. We are regularly getting new Goldens in need of a home, so we encourage you to apply and get approved so that when the right dog comes along you will be ready.

A contract is signed the day of adoption. Under the terms of the contract, all adopters are required to bring the rescue to a vet within 7 business days. The dogs receive basic veterinary care prior to adoption. If your vet identifies an illness that an adopter is not willing to treat, then the dog is returned and a full refund is provided.

The information provided on each dog is based on observations of our vets, volunteers, fosters and when available, trainers. While we do our best to report any and all issues, SGRR does not make any guarantees as to the health or temperament of any dog. Dogs evolve differently in different environments and we cannot predict with any certainty how the dog you adopt will act in your home.

Many of our dogs are fostered in private homes and we do not have a facility to visit. We are committed to our dogs before, during, and after adoption! The rescue retains title to the dog and can never be released or sold. Should the adopters no longer be able to keep the dog, SGRR must be notified so that we can take the dog back into rescue and place it into another home. We reserve the right to remove a dog at any time should we find the adopter is no longer caring for their Golden in a way we see fit. Adopters then have to agree to follow up visits as needed.
