My story

Here's what the humans have to say about me:

Miss Dumpling: 7 to 8 yr old female lynx point ragdoll mix
Fostered in Santa Cruz

It is quite clear her owners didn't take her to the vet. They surrendered her to a shelter citing "Medical skin problems" A vet would have told them her skin troubles were caused by fleas . She had a common condition called flea allergy dermatitis( FAD). Some cats with fleas get an allergic reaction to their bites. It gives them very itchy skin and she actually had some bare spots where she scratched off all her fur. The shelter gave her flea meds and we gave her a bath with a skin soothing conditioner. Problem solved. She has been lion cut a while back which is to say her body was shaved including most of her tail and her fur is now growing in..Her medium long fur is currently only evident in the pompom on the end of her tail.

If her owners had taken her to the vet, the vet likely would have also explained how to solve her other problem, too. Her family which included one other cat moved in with another family who had 4 cats., dogs, and children 3 to 11 yrs old. The new household with now 6 cats had 3 litterboxes, cleaned "2 or 3 times a week." Yikes. Miss D, being a tidy cat, found a cleaner place for her poop, avoiding the overfull boxes. The rule of thumb for numbers of litterboxes is one for each cat and one extra scooped daily, in this case, 7 boxes.

Hmmm Here is an overweight, middle aged girl with itchy skin and missing hair and a complaint about her litterbox habits. That is unfortunately a description of a cat going straight to the euthanasia room. I am sure her family had no idea of the consequences of their actions.

Fortunately for Dumpling, she is so adorable that everyone who meets her falls for her immediately and becomes her champion. The shelter workers sent her photos and said "Please..... take her she is wonderful" I asked a foster mom near her to go meet her. She said"
You've got to take her she is so wonderful !! " I said ok. The shelter set her all up before they gave her to us with a full dental "scale and polish" and antibiotic medications for her irritated skin, vaccinations and combo test, of course.

She IS a treasure. Her personality is fabulous. Loving ,fun, so cute. She should be called The Baker because she is constantly kneading the floor with her little white feet as she looks up at you as if to say "See how cute I am." She captures your attention and makes you smile every time you see her. I was jokingly going to call her "Pinhead" because her shaved all around head is so tiny and her bowling ball body is so round. Oh What a clamor from my friends!! .
YOU CAN'T CALL HER THAT!!! I didn't mean anything disrespectful but boy, I was not going to get away with any joking like that. Humans champion her because she is so adorable.

And she LOVES humans. She will follow you around. SIt on your lap.
Cuddle in your arms if you are strong enough to pick her up ( 15 pounds ) .She watches you and responds to every gesture. She also likes cats and dogs. She is good with children. She is good with everything.

She also definitely likes food, both wet and dry. Miss D needs to be fed a meat protein based diet not corn protein. I have a feeling she has been eating all kitty junk food. No longer. She needs to lose 3 or 4 pounds. Dumpling is playful and active and will slim down nicely She is not really a big cat. Maybe in her new home she ate too much because she was unhappy. That does happen but who knows. It is hard to imagine her family not cherishing her.

This little girl will cheer up anyone. She would be great in any kind of situation where she had lots of humans around. Probably she would be wonderful in a nursing home or a school. or daycare center or a big busy family. I would not set her up in a home where her family would be out all day. I think she could handle it but it wouldn' t be ideal. She is all about giving love and cuddles and is really comical and funny.

Dumpling is, by the way, absolutely litterbox perfect in her foster home and also was in the shelter.

Her foster mom is Harriet in Santa Cruz.
