My story

Here's what the humans have to say about me:

If we had to use 1 word to describe Coralina, it would be "darling." She is truly a sweetheart of a little dog. Her exact breed is unknown but at about 11 lbs and 1-2 years old, Cora is gentle, tolerant, and well-socialized. She also has a playful streak and loves to fetch. She gets along with strangers, children, and other dogs both big and small. Cora is housetrained and crate-trained and is well-behaved all around. She would make a great dog for a first-time owner or one to bring to work. She could possibly even be a therapy dog.

We came across Cora at the animal shelter. From day one, Cora was just the gentlest and sweetest of dogs. Submissive, gentle and loving towards people, without any of the stereotypical bad behaviors that are commonly associated with little dogs. Easy to handle, she has no issues with being picked up and in fact loves to be held, although she is not a "purse dog." One time when we took her to the vet, they took her to a back room where she waited for quite a while as they performed some skin scrapings. When I asked how she was doing, the vet tech said, "Just fine. She's content to sit on anybody's lap." And that's true. Cora is a cuddler. She loves to be petted and will sometimes stick her head under your hand so you'll pet her.

As gentle in nature as she can be, Cora isn't your little wilting flower. She loves to fetch, is obsessed with squeakers, loves to chase birds and dig for ground squirrels. And for such a small dog, she doesn't harbor any fear of other dogs, no matter how big. We have 3 other dogs, the biggest being 70 lbs, and she has no qualms about sleeping with them or even joining one of them in their crate. When the big dogs chase each other, she gets right in there. Unfortunately, none of our dogs really play with her but there is a young 90-lb mastiff we sometimes meet at the park that loves to be chased by her. While Cora can be active as is expected with a young dog her age, she settles down very nicely in the house.

Cora is extremely food motivated so that combined with her desire to please would make her fairly easy to train. She rides well in the car and is fine with being left alone with the other dogs in the house. She prefers to sleep on the bed, cuddled against a human when it's cold our laying upside down, belly up when it's warm. But she is also fine when confined to her crate at night. She is very good off-leash (though will run off every once in a while to chase a rabbit or birds).

If you've looking for a small dog that is well-adjusted with a perfect balance of sweetness and playfulness, Cora is the one. She's incredibly endearing, bonds very quickly, and is just as loyal as can be.

Cora is currently being fostered in ANTIOCH. Please email to request an adoption application if you are interested in meeting her. There is a $200 tax-deductible adoption fee which helps to cover our rescued dogs' medical expenses. A homecheck will also be required to ensure each dog goes to the right environment for them. Cora is spayed, microchipped, and current on shots.

In some of the videos, you'll notice that Cora may be wearing socks or various types of e-collars. That's because when she first came to us from the shelter, she had demodex mange, a non-contagious skin condition common in younger dogs. While she was being treated, we put socks and the e-collars on her to keep her from licking and scratching herself.
