Badger is a beautiful and striking male Shepherd mix, approximately 2 years old. He, along with 138 other dogs, was confiscated from a severe hoarding situation and spent one month at a shelter where he was held as evidence. Badger and his friends had no human contact their whole lives, so although he is slowly coming out of his shell, he is still extremely shy and needs a dog savvy owner and we recommend a home without young children. He is not mean or aggressive, however he can be a vocal dog. He loves playing with other dogs and he is also good with cats. Badger would do best in a home with a yard, a knowledgeable owner and even another dog to be his friend. Badger is housebroken too!
When the hoarded dogs arrived at the shelter, they were in varying degrees of neglect. However Badger has a beautiful coat and is healthy apart from one dot of non-contagious mange on his head, which is being treated with cream.
Badger needs someone with time and patience to help him learn to trust humans. He is still being leash-trained which is a slow process, because the only time he has had things around his neck so far are catch-poles with a wire noose on, which was used to capture him and to transfer him from kennel to kennel in the shelter. As one can expect, Badger retains some of the emotional scars from his terrible early years and needs someone with patience to help break down his emotional wall.
Badger is very food motivated and is being trained in basic commands like come by his loving foster. He is slowly learning how to accept loving human interaction and has come a long way! He loves to be brushed.
It will take a special person to adopt this very special dog. In the right home, this gorgeous boy will blossom and be a loyal and loving friend. He is 1 year old and weighs 30 lbs.
