My story

Here's what the humans have to say about me:

Lucky was adopted October 2013!

  • Age: 2 years old
  • Weight: currently 45lbs, but should be about 60-65lb
  • Good with kids: yes, but best for children over 10
  • Good with dogs: yes
  • Good with cats: yes
  • Fenced yard required: preferred, but would also do well in a house where he can do other daily activities (dog park, walks/runs, doggie day care)
  • Housetrained: yes, but there has been the occasional accident as he acclimates to his foster family's schedule
  • Crate trained: yes
  • Chews inappropriate items: would much prefer to chew on a bone or rubber ball
  • Barks when left alone: a little at first, but settles down quickly
  • Training: seems to know sit (sometimes), but would learn very quickly--he is a very smart boy
  • Activity level: medium--loves to play, but also loves to just be with you

Please consult our ADOPTION FAQ before contacting us. If Lucky is not listed as Pending or Adopted, you may assume he is still available.
Lucky's fosterer writes...

Lucky is truly a very lucky boy. Someone left him in a fenced in area without any food or water. When he was found, he was only 37 pounds, which is 20 or 25 pounds under what his body weight should be. Although people have let him down in the past, Lucky doesn't hold it against anyone. He loves everyone and shows every day that he is so happy to be alive and to now be loved by his foster family. He is currently 45 pounds and is steadily gaining weight and muscle. He will always be a "miniature Rottweiler" because of the neglect he suffered, but he is absolutely a beautiful guy. We couldn't believe how gorgeous his coat is after a couple of baths and some food in his belly.

In addition to his good looks, Lucky has an amazing personality. He loves to play fetch or just throw a ball up in the air to himself (watch the video of Lucky having a great time). He plays well with dogs big and small, or if a dog isn't interested in playing, he is a gentleman and doesn't disturb them. He also gets along with cats, as he met and seemed just fine with the resident cat at the veterinarian's office. He isn't all about playing though; he loves to just sit by the feet of his foster family and relax with a good belly rub.

You will truly feel very lucky, if you make Lucky part of your life!

If you are interested in Lucky, consider letting us know by filling out a (no obligation) adoption application. **CHANGE** Lucky IS NOT expecting to attend the next adoption show, October 12th at the Silver Spring PetSmart PetSmart, although there's always a possibility that plans will need to change at the last minute.
