My story

Here's what the humans have to say about me:

Purebreds Plus Cat Rescue is helping facilitate the adoption of this cat. We take no responsibility for her health and medical records. It is the responsibility of the owner and adopter to discuss this.

Fluffy is a beautiful, affectionate, medium to long-haired girl who gurgles and chirps as she talks to you. She has several of the characteristic physical traits of a Maine Coon: a strong jaw, widely spaced ears, large frame, and tufts of fur between her large paws. As for personality, she is gentle and trusting and loves company.

The vet who is fostering her has known Fluffy since she was a kitten. A client's cat had a litter of kittens, and Fluffy was the one the folks kept. Both Fluffy and her mother were eventually spayed at the vet clinic.

Unfortunately, Fluffy lived with a family who underestimated the risks of letting a cat roam outside. As a result, this past this spring and summer, Fluffy suffered two serious accidents. The second injury, in August, was so severe that the owners surrendered her to the vet because they could not afford the orthopedic surgery necessary to fix her broken leg.

The first accident, in May, was an instance of cruelty. The next door neighbor of the original owners hit Fluffy on the rump with a board that had nails stuck in it! This abuse resulted in an extensive infection affecting her skin, muscles, and soft tissues. Luckily, the wounds were superficial, and with treatment, Fluffy healed well. Local animal control became involved in the case immediately but left Fluffy with her owners because someone else had perpetrated the abuse.

Against the veterinarian’s advice, Fluffy’s owners continued to give Fluffy access to the outdoors. Thus, three months later, Fluffy came back to the clinic on an emergency basis with serious injuries resulting from an attack by a neighbor’s Pit Bull. Fortunately, Fluffy had no internal injuries, but one of her rear legs was fractured and required surgery. Unprepared to pay for surgery, the owners surrendered Fluffy to the vet that very day.

The vet provided emergency treatment to stabilize Fluffy, and later in the week, a board certified surgeon repaired the leg fracture. Our vet paid the surgeon out of her own pocket and brought the kitty to her home to recuperate in a large cage.

It is now 10 weeks since the surgery, and Fluffy’s leg has healed very well. She doesn't even have a limp. After all her misfortunes, this loving girl is now ready to find what she deserves: a strictly indoor home where she will get lots of affection, gentle care, and active playtime. We are looking for a strictly indoor home without dogs or children.

Fluffy is healthy, FeLV and FIV negative, and fully vaccinated.
