Shelter FAQs

Save-A-Pet is a 501(c)3 nonprofit organization and one of the largest no-kill cat and dog rescues in Lake County that operates a full-time adoption center. Our adoption center strives to create an environment which enhances both awareness of and support for the humane treatment of animals.
We specialize in serving adopters from Northeastern Illinois (Lake County, Cook County, McHenry County) and Southeastern Wisconsin (Kenosha County, Racine County, and Walworth County). However, we are open to adopters from all locations as long as they are able to travel and complete Save-A-Pet's full adoption process and requirements. Local/State requirements may differ for importing a new pet so be sure to check your local and state laws if located outside of Illinois.
