Our primarly locations serve El Paso, Texas and Las Cruces, New Mexico. However, we do adopt out-of-area to approved, screened adopters.

Our adoption fee for most animals is $100, which includes their vaccinations, spay/neuter, health check, all medical treatments rendered, collar/leash/tags, and a go-home bag of goodies! Also included is one-month of free pet health insurance.
The first step in our adoption process is to fill out our on-line application available on our website at www.fthar.org. You can fill it out right from your computer screen and it will automatically be e-mailed to our Adoption Coordinator.
After we receive your application, we will process it. We do check references and will talk to your vet, so this may take some time. We are very concerned about placing our dogs in good, loving homes. Our goal is 100% successful placements, with no returns, so we try very hard to get to know the adoptive families, both through our application form and through personal visits.
We also will make a home visit to inspect the home and yard to ensure the safety of the pet, and to meet your family. The purpose of all this is to match the right dog with the right family, and ensure a good, permanent placement. If there are any issues with the house or yard that we feel need to be addressed prior to placement, we will let you know what they are, give you some time to resolve them, and then do a re-inspection.
We want this to work out well for both you and the dog and, because of that, we may seem to take all this a bit too seriously. Sometimes we will not approve a particular placement. This usually has to do with the animal and its specific needs; it is not a reflection on you or your family. Some dogs and families are just not good fits and, if we feel this is this case, we will tell you. The bottom line is we want to find good homes for all our dogs, and to see that they never end up looking for a home again. We have a lot of time, money and love invested in every one of our animals and we take their happiness seriously.

That’s where From The Heart comes in …From The Heart is a coalition of experienced volunteers, dedicated to caring for the hurt and frightened victims of accident, disease, cruelty and neglect. We provide life-saving surgeries, medications and special care that other organizations are not able or willing to give. Once restored to health, we then work diligently to find each animal a permanent loving home.
From The Heart Rescue was founded in January 2004, due to the need of a very special dog. Bear-A-Cutie (as we came to call him) was discarded by his family because, after they allowed him to get into antifreeze, they wouldn't deal with the aftermath. He was taken to the vet for euthanasia...at only a few months old, his life was almost over. Partially blind and deaf, no rescue group would take him. Through the compassion of several individual rescuers throughout the country, Bear-A-Cutie was saved. Just three months later, after rehabilitation by his foster home, he was starting agility training and, soon after that, found the love he so deserved in a new forever home.
Through dedication, a deep love and respect for those unwanted by others, From The Heart is able to give chances to dogs like Bear-A-Cutie which other rescues, operating on volume, are not. Dogs are given the individual attention in a loving foster home while recovering from their previous lives. While we may not place 2,000 animals a year, each one of the animals placed through From The Heart is ensured of a loving, carefully screened home, where they will get the second chance they deserve at a happy and healthy life.
