Additional adoption info
Our adoption fee is $250. That helps cover veterinary expenses and boarding fees for all our rescue dogs. For that cost your dog will be spayed/neutered, current on vaccinations, an id microchip implanted and in good health to the best of our volunteer staff’s knowledge.
Anyone interested in adopting a DSR Samoyed must complete an Adoption Application. You may expect a response to your application within one week. The application is a list of questions inquiring about your pet ownership philosophy and match to the Samoyed breed (for instance, if you prefer not to deal with a dog that sheds or dog hair in general - this is not the breed for you!). We also ask for veterinary references which are checked. If there are any questions, we'll talk to you about our concern(s) and go from there. Please understand the reason behind this screening process is because we are interested in finding a permanent, committed, loving home for our Sams. Their health and well-being is our primary concern. We make every effort to place the right dog with the right people - the first time around. It needs to be a good match on both ends, for you, and for the dog. We do reserve the right to deny any applicant a dog.
We will not hold a rescue dog for you. Once you have completed an application if we have a dog we think may interest you we'll contact you, along with anyone else that is currently waiting for a similar match. We work on a first come, first served basis, providing the match between dog and family is a good one for both. However, in situations where an owner is involved in the placement, they generally have the final word on who gets their animal.
The majority of our dogs come from private individuals who have asked us to help them find a new home for their Samoyed. We also work with shelters in the area who have Samoyeds they have been unable to place. We do not help individuals sell their Samoyeds.
We also keep track of Samoyeds available at shelters in the area. As with our own dogs, if we know of a Samoyed we think may interest you we'll contact you. However, our referral to a shelter does not guarantee they will place a dog with you. The adoption is between you and the shelter holding the dog. DSR cannot provide any input into that process.
All our rescue Samoyeds are neutered or spayed, no exceptions.
DSR rarely has puppies available for adoption. Occasionally we place a dog that is less than a year in age, however those occasions are few and far between. If you are interested in purchasing a puppy we can refer you to the individual who does Breeder Referral for the Denver Samoyed Association. They generally know who has puppies and who is expecting Samoyed puppies in the area.
As with most breed rescue groups, we also do a lot of public education and assistance in an effort to match Samoyeds with a suitable home, and keep them there. If you're having a problem we'd like an opportunity to discuss the situation and hopefully provide suggestions that will help resolve the issue.
