Shelter FAQs

The Knox County Humane Society, a non-profit, 501(c)(3) organization founded in 1887, provides for the surrender, care, and adoption of homeless and abandoned cats and kittens in Knox County.

OUR MISSION
The Knox County Humane Society’s primary purpose is to provide for the welfare of cats and dogs through public awareness clinics and campaigns, humane sheltering and fostering, adoption and surrender services, rescue and transfer services, initial medical and altering services for stray, surrendered and rescued cats. The organization places its emphasis on performing all of its goals for all cats who are healthy and adoptable.
We only take in cats from Knox County, OH and the associated towns:
Mount Vernon, OH
Centerburg, OH
Fredericktown, OH
Gambier, OH
Danville, OH
We adopt cats to people all over Ohio and have adopted to as far away as Washington (the state) if the adopter can arrange transport.

  3. Visit the Facility and Find a Pet
  4. Take the Pet Home

Additional adoption info

Application required. Applications may be found at http://www.knoxhumanesociety.org/ under the Adoption tab. Please complete the application form and read and sign the contract. It may take 24 hours or more to process applications. Successful adopters will have written or oral permission from their landlord, if applicable, and have a good veterinary reference. A signed contract is required.

Fees:
$50 for kittens (<6 months)
$25 for cats (>6 months)
$15 Lonely Hearts (cats who have been in our care for an extended period of time)
$15 Barn Cats
$10 Senior for Senior
Regular specials with discounted adoption fees

Fee includes: FELV/FIV testing, FVRCP vaccines (age appropriate), Rabies vaccine, Spay or Neuter, Microchip, Parasite treatment (fleas and internal parasites).
