Rescue FAQs

Justice Great Dane Rescue is a 501(c)3 Non-Profit Organization formed to rescue, rehabilitate, and re-home Great Danes in and around New Mexico. As a non-shelter based organization, all of the Great Danes in our care require a foster home. JGDR manages a volunteer based foster program. This program allows our organization to continue to help Great Danes in need, without fosters we cannot continue to bring Great Danes into rescue. Our foster program is our backbone. We take in Great Danes from New Mexico and surrounding states many of these animals are surrendered by their owners or rescued from high kill shelters. We are a breed specific organization, which means that we stick to what we know and we do it well. Being breed specific allows us to specialize in these gentle giants. We are well versed in caring for Great Danes, their needs, common medical conditions and we are very successful in finding permanent placement for them with a less than 10% return rate. Justice Great Dane Rescue (JGDR) operates with an all-volunteer Board of Directors who donates both their time and efforts. There are (4) Officers which include the President, Vice President, Secretary and Treasurer as well as several other non-officer voting members who form the Committee Chairs of our Fundraising, Adoption, Foster Program, Volunteer and Publicity/Public Relations committees. There are also numerous volunteers and foster parents who are the backbone of JGDR’s rescue efforts. We take great care to match our foster dogs to their foster parents to ensure success on both fronts. Some Great Danes may only need short term fostering while others may be with us for a very long period of time. We do our best to ensure fosters are comfortable with the Dane and its needs and they are aware of the expected timeline and outcome plan for their foster.
We are a 501(c)3 non Profit, located in Albuquerque NM serving the entire state of New Mexico, and are happy to work with surrounding states.

Additional adoption info

We adopt our animals through an application process. The application is received, references are checked and a home visit will be conducted. Once an applicant is approved we will then begin a 7 day test drive with the dog that both we and the applicant feel is the best fit. Our adoption fees vary by age of the Great Dane. After the test drive period the adoption is finalized. One of our adoption buddies will follow up with the adopter at designated intervals throughout the year following the adoption to ensure that both the adopter and the adopted dog are doing well together and any issues will be addressed.
