Areas Canadian Cocker Spaniel Rescue serves

Canadian Cocker Spaniel Rescue is a non-profit organization based in Ontario, Canada. We are committed to rescuing homeless & abandoned dogs, aiding shelters and assisting owners who can no longer care for their beloved spaniels. All of our Dogs are fully vetted including vaccines, sterilization and heart worm prevention. We work very closely with our amazing Veterinarian.

Everyone is a crucial aid and an integral part in us being successful - by working with dedicated volunteers, foster homes, our local veterinarian, trainer, and other reputable rescues. We rescue dogs in need and provide them with loving care until we find them their well-matched forever homes.

We also provide, as best we can to those who we come into contact with, information on responsible pet ownership. This includes the importance of spay/neuter, good veterinary care, positive and proper behavior training and good nutrition.

We proudly specialize in the Cocker Spaniel Breed as there are very few reputable rescues specializing in them.

Canadian Cocker Spaniel Rescue's adoption process

Additional adoption info

Canadian Cocker Spaniel Rescue’s adoption process starts when we receive, preferably by email, a completed application form for a particular dog in our care.

Once your application is completed and received, we will check with your vet to make sure your current pets are up to date medically. We will call your pet references. We will make sure that your family is a match for the animal you are applying for by doing a home visit and meet and greet. After you have sent in your application, you will typically here back from us within a few hours.

Remember, we are all volunteers with jobs and families, we respectfully try to handle your application as quickly as possible, we know how excited you are, so are we to find a new home for one of our dogs, but, kids get sick, and jobs get busy, so please bare with us and give us 24 hours.

We are with you every step of the way and will always be here to help you train, integrate your new companion, etc even years after the adoption should you ever need us.

If any of our dogs ever needed to be returned we would always take them back without hesitation or judgment.

All the dogs in our care that are adopted out are current on their vaccinations and have been spayed/neutered or will be on a spay/neuter contract. Canadian Cocker Spaniel Rescue dogs are seen by our veterinarian when they come into and for any medical issues that come up while in our care. A full medical history will always be disclosed to the potential adopter.

An adoption fee of $400 is required for our dogs over 1 year of age, $300 for Seniors (age 7 and up) and $500 for puppies. This fee is considered non-refundable as it all goes back to helping the dogs in our care and future dogs as well. The fee is used to cover any costs incurred by the dog while they are with us and to help provide supplies for the rescue in order to help us bring in other dogs in need.

About Canadian Cocker Spaniel Rescue

Canadian Cocker Spaniel Rescue is a small, non-profit rescue which was founded in Ontario, Canada in April 2012 originally aiding all Spaniel Breeds, but after a serious demand and need for aiding Cockers, and after the Founder took a 6 month break due to a serious health issue, we chose to focus strictly on this breed. We are currently applying for registered Not-For-Profit Status in Ontario and will publicly post our financials each quarter so you can confidently see where the funds are spent and that the priority is and always be the Cockers.

Both Co-Founders have had Cocker Spaniels for a majority of their life. A dream, for many years, was to have a Spaniel Rescue. She was blessed to be a part of the Rescue world where she learned a lot and is forever grateful. With the education and support of other Rescue's she decided to take the plunge and Found the Rescue. She did this with her Husband who shares her passion for the Cocker Spaniel Breed.

Our small group is made up of foster homes and volunteers, who really are the heart of the rescue. Currently we are small, but our hearts and beliefs are huge. We look forward to the journey ahead in becoming well established and reputable in the Rescue World. We have a long road ahead, but will always conduct with dignity, respect and honesty.

We are the ones that care for our dogs until forever homes can be found. Our mission is to rescue, rehabilitate and re-home unwanted dogs. To prevent overpopulation by spaying or neutering, to restore trust, love, confidence, and to find the best home for each dog in our care

We are solely a foster based rescue. This meaning that any dog in care with us is placed in a loving foster home, not in a kennel environment.

We have a Board Of Directors (BOD) who meets frequently to make decisions best for the Dogs and Rescue. They also conduct an Annual General Meeting in the month of July, where the year previous is reviewed in full and the year in advance is discussed. They are the ones who make the final decisions on adoptions.

Adopt a Pet is the easiest way for you to search for a new pet in Ottawa, ON.

Support adoption and rescue. Why go to a dog breeder, cat breeder or pet store to buy a dog or buy a cat when you can adopt?

Why should you adopt?

Dog adoption and cat adoption saves lives. Adopt a dog or adopt a cat and you'll have a friend for life.

What is the difference between adopting a dog, adopting a cat, adopting a kitten or adopting a puppy versus getting dogs for sale, cats for sale, puppies for sale or kittens for sale from a dog breeder or a cat breeder?

When someone is breeding puppies or breeding kittens, they are creating new dogs and cats who need homes. Some people are interested in a very specific breed of dog, cat, puppy or kitten and they think the only way to find that specific breed is to buy a dog for sale or buy a cat for sale from a puppy breeder or a kitten breeder. Yet animal shelters are filled with dogs and cats who must find homes.

So rather than buying a dog or puppy for sale from a dog breeder or buying a cat or kitten for sale from a cat breeder, we encourage people to adopt a dog, adopt a cat, adopt a puppy or adopt a kitten at their local animal shelter, SPCA, humane society or pet rescue group.
