Rescue FAQs

We are a private sanctuary devoted to the care, protection and welfare of the following breeds: Dogue de Bordeaux Neapolitan Mastiff English Mastiff Bulldogs, French Bulldogs All other large breed dogs Valley Mastiff Rescue is a federal registered Charitable Organization #84050 2934 RR0001 Nestled in the heart of the forest, this is a place of healing and love. Dogs are welcomed at our shelter to be rehabilitated and cared for. Our goal is to offer compassion and understanding to dogs in need by welcoming them in a safe place where transformation and healing begins. Our sanctuary welcomes the homeless, neglected, unwanted, the sick or abused. At any given time, there are between 5 to15 dogs being cared for at the sanctuary. Many dogs are rescued from shelters, SPCA's Canada & USA or high kill pounds. We have also rehabilitated many dogs from puppy mills and breeding facilities over the years. We personnaly treat & rehabilitate if needed in the hopes of finding a caring new forever family.
We serve the Outaouais Region, Ottawa-Gatineau. and will prioritise local adoptions as we are a small private shelter. We adopt to northern USA states ( Vermont, Maine ) and within a 5 hours radius ( Toronto, Montreal etc).

Additional adoption info

Families interested in adopting must fill out an Application to Adopt on www.valleymastiffrescue.com or simply pick up the phone and call !!

When the adoption form is completed we will contact you. We will have a phone chat and invite you over to the shelter to meet the dogs.

It is our ultimate goal to determine the breed and personnality of the dog that would fit into your home and with your lifestyle. Like people, dogs have different personalities and we need to find the perfect fit for your family. It is specifically for this reason that we will not promise any particular dog to a family.

We offer visits to the refuge by appointment . As all the dogs are present at our Sanctuary, it is a privilege to have the opportunity of meeting all the dogs awaiting homes when you come visit the shelter.

You may fill in an online application that will soon be followed by a phone interview. References must be provided and will be verified. There is a mandatory home visit and we expect all members , human and animal, to be present at that time. We will then notify you of our decision and hopefully find the perfect match for your family. All dogs are adopted under a contract to ensure responsible dog ownership. The contracts allows a 14 day trial period to allow adjustement when bringing a new dog in your home.
We want to make the adoption process a pleasurable one. From beginning to end of the adoption process, the important thing to us, is for you to be able at any moment, to know we are there and just a phone call away.We will be there to answer any questions or provide assistance with training or health issues following adoption for the entire lifetime of the dog.
VMR reserves the right to refuse any application.
