Rescue FAQs

Saving Carolina Dogs was created by 3 people who own Carolina Dogs and wanted to do more for them. Our mission is to identify and rescue the ones that we find in shelters that may be overlooked due to the lack of knowledge of the breed. We've built a network across the country of volunteers, fosters, adopters, supporters etc. and we LOVE what we do! With the help of Adopt a Pet we hope that we can increase our ability to offer rescue to this amazing rare breed of dog.
Saving Carolina Dogs is a non-profit, volunteer based organization that saves Carolina Dog types in various shelters all around the country. All of our dogs are placed in loving foster homes where they can begin to acclimate to life outside of the shelter. Many of our foster homes have more than one dog (some have cats) so the dogs are well socialized when they are ready for adoption.

Additional adoption info

Our adoption process begins with an adoption application which requires a vet reference and home check. An adoption contract is required ensuring that the dog be returned to us at any time during its life should a problem arise. We have an after care page on Facebook that we encourage all adopters to join so they can find information, share stories, and ask questions if they need to. For us, the well being of the dog AFTER adoption, is just as important as the actual adoption. Our fees vary depending on the amount of vetting, age, etc. Transport is extra and we can arrange for our dogs to go anywhere in the country.
