Additional adoption info
We offer "foster-to-adopt" as opposed to the traditional "first come, first serve" policy most adoption agencies employ.
Our Foster-to-Adopt program allows you and your potential new pet to experience each other in your home environment without having to make an immediate decision and final commitment up front; a "trial run" so to speak.
We require adopters to pay a deposit and foster their potential new pet for a minimum of 30 consecutive days prior to finalizing the adoption. The pet may be returned at any time within the specified time-period and the adoption deposit will be fully refunded.
After the foster period is complete and you have decided to make a lifetime commitment to the pet, you will then pay the remainder of the pet’s adoption fee and the adoption will be finalized.

About Parke County Animal Welfare Services Inc (PAWS)
WHO WE ARE & WHAT WE DO:
Parke County Animal Welfare Services Inc (PAWS), formerly known as "OTIS" or "The OTIS Foundation Inc" is a 501(c)3 registered tax-exempt nonprofit organization dedicated to improving the lives of animals in our community and beyond. We are a foster-based organization.
Because we have no physical location or facility, we take on ONLY the most extreme cases, which generally consists only of STRAY companion animals in need of emergency veterinary care (hit by car, shot, etc.) and animals seized by law enforcement in cruelty investigations. We do NOT accept owner surrenders; that is what an animal shelter/humane society is for. We are not an animal shelter.
We are a small group of people who love animals and believe in the value of all living beings. We want to ensure that our community's pets are treated with respect and teach others to recognize and understand the value of the animals' lives.
Through education and advocacy, we strive to promote the importance of proper animal care, spaying/neutering, adoption/fostering, as well as the importance of enhancing animal protection laws.

Support adoption and rescue. Why go to a dog breeder, cat breeder or pet store to buy a dog or buy a cat when you can adopt?
Why should you adopt?
Dog adoption and cat adoption saves lives. Adopt a dog or adopt a cat and you'll have a friend for life.
What is the difference between adopting a dog, adopting a cat, adopting a kitten or adopting a puppy versus getting dogs for sale, cats for sale, puppies for sale or kittens for sale from a dog breeder or a cat breeder?
When someone is breeding puppies or breeding kittens, they are creating new dogs and cats who need homes. Some people are interested in a very specific breed of dog, cat, puppy or kitten and they think the only way to find that specific breed is to buy a dog for sale or buy a cat for sale from a puppy breeder or a kitten breeder. Yet animal shelters are filled with dogs and cats who must find homes.
So rather than buying a dog or puppy for sale from a dog breeder or buying a cat or kitten for sale from a cat breeder, we encourage people to adopt a dog, adopt a cat, adopt a puppy or adopt a kitten at their local animal shelter, SPCA, humane society or pet rescue group.
