Shelter FAQs

Finger Lakes Thoroughbred Adoption Program has been in exsistence since 2004. We have a 16 stall barn and office located on the grounds of Finger Lakes RaceTrack (a first in North America) in Farmington, NY. Our mission is to give horses a second chance to be winners. All the horses in the program have either raced or trained at Finger Lakes Racetrack. Our staff consists of Julie Smtih who is a trainer at Finger Lakes Racetrack as well as our Program Manager. Julie has been involved with horses since a very young age. Damaris Cruz is our Barn/Volunteer Supervisor and she had been a groom at Finger Lakes Racetrack for 15 years prior to joining our team 6 years ago.
Finger Lakes Thoroughbred Adoption Program is located in Farmington, New York in upstate NY - we serve clients as far away as Maine, California, Floridia and Canada along with local clients.

Additional adoption info

We have a $10.00 non refundable adoption application fee, after the potential adoptor is approved (we check with their vet, require pictures of where the horse will be stabled and a general back ground/reference check is completeed), depending on the thoroughbred they ar looking at and what future career the horse can preform in - adoption fees are no charge to $1,500.00.
We follow each adopted horse for one year after adoption with 3, 6 and 12 month update paperwork required. Should the adopter stable within a 50 mile radius one of our Board Members will stop in to check on how things are going with the adoption.

While visiting our website you will see "how to donate" - please follow the instructions and in advance thank you for your support. All donations receive a tax deductable donation letter.
