Rescue FAQs

FAT Cats is a group of multiple feral cat colony caretakers in the Flatbush/Prospect-Lefferts Gardens area of Brooklyn, NY. Our goal is to TNR all of our colonies and help neighboring colonies with TNR in an ongoing quest to control the feral cat population. In this regard, we come across many very friendly strays and throwaways, as well as kittens, that are not feral and need good homes. We make sure these cats are spayed/neutered, vaccinated for rabies and fvrcp, combo snap tested for FIV/FeLV, and fostered to assess personality in order to find the right home. Please note: We are not an animal rescue group to the general public, we are a TNR group (trap-neuter-return) helping feral cats in the Prospect Lefferts Gardens-Flatbush and surrounding areas of Brooklyn NY. Though we do have cats for adoption, these are very friendly cats and very young kittens from our own colonies that we are fostering until forever homes are found. We wish we could help every single cat out there, but unfortunately we do not have the resources to take in rescues or cats that require rehoming for various reasons from the general public. Please read this article at the link below for the best strategies and information on rehoming your cat: http://www.humanesociety.org/animals/resources/tips/finding_responsible_pet_home.html?referrer=http://www2.dragndropbuilder.com/weebly/main.php Please avoid bringing your cat to the ACC at all costs, the majority of animals brought there are killed within a few days to make room for more animals.

Additional adoption info

An adoption application is filled out and references are checked, then a home visit to ensure the safety and well being of cat. If all goes well, an adoption agreement is signed.

Our adoption fees are $100 for an adult cat, $125 for 1 kitten (and only to a home where there's another cat), and $175 for 2 kittens.

If a kitten is adopted before being neutered due to age or weight, a deposit of $30 is required to ensure the kitten is neutered when she is old enough.
