Rescue FAQs

The Humane Society of Davie County is a non-profit 501c3 group seeking to make a difference in the lives of animals in Davie County and surrounding areas. The Humane Society obtained tax-exempt status in late 1998 and since then has endeavored to improve conditions for animals at the local animal shelter, raise awareness in the community about the need of spay/neuter of animals, and place numerous previously unwanted animals into loving homes. The Humane Society’s long-term goal is to eliminate the overpopulation of dogs and cats in Davie County.
We rescue dogs and cats in Davie County, NC and surrounding counties and adopt them out to loving homes within the county and state as well as out of state. All our animals are in foster homes. Adopters are asked to visit our website at hsdavie.org and click on the animal's picture they are interested in meeting to complete an adoption application. Once that is completed and reviewed, an adoption staff member will contact the adopter to schedule the meet and greet with the animal's foster family.

Adoption steps

  1. Submit Application
    1. We like to get the adoption application completed first, so we have all the adopter's contact information in our system ahead of time.
  2. Approve Application
    1. We will review your application and if our adoption team has any questions, we will contact the adopter.
  3. Meet the Pet
    1. Since all of our adoptable animals are in foster homes or pet stores, we have to schedule a time for the foster or volunteer to meet adopter
  4. Sign Adoption Contract
    1. Our adoption contracts are digital and can be done virtually to speed up the adoption process and no extra steps to come by to sign.
  5. Pay Fee
    1. Our adoption fees can all be paid digitally with a card, cash, or check. We can accept those prior to the adoption or at time of adoption.
  6. Take the Pet Home
    1. Our fosters are wonderful about meeting adopters and will send your newly adopted pet home sample food they have been on and other items.
