Rescue FAQs

SophieDog Rescue is a small home based rescue in the Cincinnati, Ohio area. We have been rescuing puppies and dogs for over 20 years from local shelters, southern hi-kill shelters and owner surrenders. We do not have a physical shelter so most of our dogs/puppies are located in foster homes in and around the Greater Cincinnati OH area. We believe with all our heart that every dog deserves a chance at happiness. That means every dog deserves every day a safe place to live, a full belly, proper medical care and a loving family. We believe that there is a forever home waiting for every dog - and it is our job to find it. With our many years of experience we understand what it takes to match the right dog to the right family. Our track record is proof of our success.
Sophiedog Rescue serves primarily the Cincinnati and surround tri-state areas. We have however, moved dogs through various means around the country. Adopters have often driven or flown in for their puppy/dog. These decisions to adopt long distance are made on a case by case basis.

Additional adoption info

Before you can adopt any animal you MUST complete an adoption application.

We ask questions about your home, family, other pets, and your plans for your new dog/puppy. We also ask for references, including your veterinary if you have other animals at home.

Please remember - we are not being nosy. Everything we do is to ensure that the animals in our care are protected and placed in a suitable home.

Our questions are aimed at matching adopters with the most suitable dog/puppy. It is very stressful and upsetting for everyone when adoptions don’t work out and pets have to come back to us. We are trying to give them the best possible chance of finding a permanent home

Once your application is submitted it will be reviewed and then we will contact you.

You will be asked to sign an adoption contract and pay the adoption fee ($325 for most dogs/puppies). This fee covers spaying or neutering, veterinary care, deworming, vaccines, food, and other items your pet has received while in our care.

If you think you are ready to adopt one of our animals please complete and submit our adoption form.
