My story

Here's what the humans have to say about me:

Bubba is an 11 yr. old (DOB:9/11/13), black Lab mix. Bubba was rescued and brought to the shelter a few years ago. Bubba needs a new, loving, retirement home; a family with patience, to give Bubba time to adjust. Bubba has somewhat of a baby face, which is now graying nicely, and he is a very sweet boy! He may even want to play some with rope and rubber toys. But he likes naps and cuddles best. Bubba is quite strong and would need a capable owner. Bubba is good with people, but he should be an 'only' dog in the household. Best with adult owners. Bubba will need some supervision in house training. We recommend possibly crating at night and if left alone during the day. Bubba will also need a secure fence in his new home. The adoption fee for cats/dogs is $100.00. This includes spaying or neutering, deworming, all required vaccinations and microchipping.

More about this shelter

The Amarillo SPCA is a 501(c)3 non profit organization. We operate solely on donations and fundraisers.

Presently, we operate a shelter for dogs and cats. We have approximately 100 animals housed at the shelter and in foster care.

One of our main concerns is pet over population. It is important that the public be educated about the importance of spaying and neutering their pets. It is also our goal to make sure every animal that is adopted from the SPCA is sterilized before going to a new home.

We receive calls daily from people who request help with their animals--either needing to give them up or asking for help with food and medical needs. We help whenever we can, but financially we're not able to help often.

We have grown to the extent that volunteers alone cannot provide necessary hours for operating the kennels. We have a shelter manager and other part time employees for the care of the animals and maintenance of our facility.

Costs for our facility include payroll for these employees, good quality food for the animals, heat and air conditioning, medical treatment for sickness or injury. Additional costs for the animals always include vaccinations, deworming, microchipping and sterilization before leaving the shelter to go to new homes. Our vet bills are high and frequently expenses are far more than the adoption fee of $100. Therefore donations are hugely appreciated! We look forward to your contribution and particularly to your interest in one of our dogs or cats as a permanent companion.
