My story

Here's what the humans have to say about me:

Stuart is a 4 year old great Dane mix who is neutered and up to date on all vaccines and weighs about 85 lbs. Affectionately called "Stewby Doo", Stuart is a very sweet guy who mostly likes to lay low and find a nice spot to nap. He loves napping in his crate and is very comfortable there. When he's not napping, he's using his guard dog instincts to keep us safe and aware of all the rabbits in the yard. But don't be fooled by his mellow demeanor, he will rise to the occasion when it is time to play or go for a walk. He loves to run and chase the ball - and with those long legs he is fast! But he's a good listener and will usually stay within the designated boundaries and responds well to your calling him back. Once he's run a few laps and gotten the energy out he'd much rather just sit in the shade and chew (destroy) the ball :) Inside the house he is well behaved, although very interested in the kitchen and any crumb he might be able to snag off the floor. His nose is about counter-height, so it's best to keep an eye on him when he's in there. He is not food or toy possessive, but he's been known to steal a sock or two when you're not looking... otherwise he's not much into mischief. While very loving and sweet and gentle with those he knows and trusts, he has a bit of trouble when new people come to the door - particularly if they enter unannounced. If introduced properly and given the time to warm up to people he does fine. But a house with lots of surprise visitors or lots of people coming and going is probably not best for him. He prefers a quiet and calm environment. Stuart is a well behaved, loyal and very loving dog, but if put into the wrong scenario, he can become a little fearful and he might make a bad decision...and he's too good of a dog to allow that to happen. For this reason, Stuart would do best in a quiet home with no small children or cats (definitely no cats!). He has done well with other dogs if introduced properly and given time to get to know each other. Overall he would be best with an experienced owner who is willing to be a strong pack leader for him to follow. E-mail caredogvolunteers@gmail.com for an application.
